I’m still working through “And the Sun Went Out”, but it’s absolutely incredible so far! The plot and characters are extremely engaging, and it just keeps you wanting for more! There are consequences for your actions, which I definitely like. (Which is a low bar, but it really makes you want to choose the best option.) And I absolutely LOVE the LGBTQ+ inclusion! It made me so much more excited that it existed (and the fact that you didn’t even have to choose romance as an option as well)! There are choice tickets where you typically have to watch ads to get them, but I’m totally fine with that as, a. it’s a free app with free stories, and b. you can just keep watching ads to get more! The app works pretty smoothly and the format is neat and readable (though my only complaint is that you can’t go back a page to figure out what it said if you missed it or accidentally tapped twice). Otherwise, everything is really, really, good, and if you’re interested in choose-your-own-adventure stories, this is definitely one to pick!

I've read/played through a bit of the first story. I paid for the pass because the story is exciting and I really want to know what happens. I'm really enjoying making decisions that affect how the story progresses. The only thing I would change is being able to see at least how many other branches are there that make up the percentage that it gives you at the end of each arc.
  • One of the best choice-based games out there! Apr 28, 2021

    By COD3Starr
Many choice-based story games always seem to follow the same formula. Your choices never felt like they mattered and, in the end, they really didn’t. You always ended up at a same (or similar) ending, only slightly altered to fit some of the choices you’d made. But not this game. Every choice felt like it matter. Every little choice could, on one hand, save someone that you’d befriended. But that choice could also as easily get someone killed. It was a toss up and that’s what I liked so much about the stories in this game. It always has you on edge and makes you wonder if you’re making the decision. I’d definitely recommend giving this story game a go and play through each of the stories, especially if you’ve been looking for a ‘real’ choice based game for awhile. Also, I’d recommend purchasing the story pass. Not only does it make the experience a bit more enjoyable, but also allows you to support the developers and the writers who made this incredible game!
  • Awesome, but a little creeped out. Apr 8, 2019

This is now my favorite app. I have just finished 'And The Sun Went Out', and I adored (and slightly hated) the ending. Though I could go into much detail and all the things I loved, I shall not spoil the ending for new comers to this lovely game. Though, I'm a wimp. I get really scared really easily. When I tapped on 'And their Souls were eaten' it said I had to be 13 or older to play this game. I'm 12. I'm slightly scared what I'll encounter when I start this next game when I turn 13. If I get nightmares (which doesn't happen often), I'm deleting the app, but overall, amazing game. I have a few issues to report. First: Sometimes I press a certain choice, and it does the opposite one. I was in a collapsing building and it gave me the option to save someone or run away. I chose 'Save someone', but it had me run away instead. I do not know if this is the actual consequence that happens, or it is actually a glitch. Second: You have spelled a few things wrong. Minor things, really, but I have noticed you spelled 'please' as 'pleaes' and 'on' as 'en'. Not that big a deal, though. This game makes the characters come to life. The wording is amazing, the choices are tough (especially in the end), and the whole aspect of the game is incredible. I am very much excited to be playing 'And Their Souls Were Eaten' and 'And Their Heroes Were Lost'. Great job, Tin Man Games!! ((Etienne and Moti 4 life.)) Sincerely, LupinLover15

Very cool game, it reminds me if the old text adventures. I really enjoy the ambient music and sound effects. The only issue I have is that it seems like many of the decisions don't affect the outcome, other than a handful of them. Overall, though, I would definitely recommend it!
  • My favorite CYOA game Nov 20, 2018

    By Jin's#1-lol
This app is just perfect. It encompasses 3 stories right now. I read “and their heroes were lost” first before going back to “and the sun went out.” I love how you get so many choices. Sometimes, you don’t have the information to make an educated choice, and I love that because it’s how the situation would actually be in you were there. The writers really carve out a realistic and believable world for the stories. The music is suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also loved the fact that you can watch a ton of ads to get 3 tickets which is very generous. Although some may say the interface isn’t developed enough as other episodic games, I actually love the simple interface more. It lets you concentrate on the story, the plot, and your imagination rather than cementing how people or situations look. I like a little imaginative space. Nothing but rave compliments for this app!! Definitely buy if you love CYOA games!

I started playing “And The Sun Went Out” and I was absolutely ensnared by the captivating story! This game is absolutely fantastic! Never have I encountered a choices based game that was as friendly and reasonable as this one! This app never forces a negative outcome that I didn’t outright cause, like other similar games that punish you for being curious and making choices freely. This app builds a wonderful narrative and does not give all the information you want to know right away, I was left wondering who exactly my character was until I explored further in-game. I also extremely enjoy the ticket/choices function where you can wait for tickets or watch 15-30second ads for 3. This is a fantastic system and I can guarantee that I helped the developer’s ad revenue increase significantly! Overall, this is a wonderful app and I can’t wait to finish the first story and start the others!

I have enjoyed a few text adventures over the years. Some good, some bad. This one kinda falls into the later category. Its not terrible, I suppose, but I got bored pretty quick. Story is unoriginal and characters are uninteresting. I gave it three stars only because its free and ads aren't too annoying.
  • Overall very good Nov 12, 2020

1st story: I really like the Sun story. Pulled me in, and really liked the interaction between Moti and the main character. The ending I got I would consider very good. For a moment I thought it was not going to be good but I was able to turn it around. I will replay this story. 2nd story: it took a little bit to get hooked, but once I had a clear vision of the imagery, I was hooked! This was very interesting and honestly, someone should make a short movie about this. Out of the three, this story made me feel like every choice I made actually mattered. I think the ending I got was the most realistic ending. 3rd story: I liked the premise, and I was hooked instantly. The story dragged as I got into the middle, and found myself skipping through a lot of dialogue. Some of the choices in the middle seemed redundant or it would ask me to make a choice on events that didn’t seem impactful. I want to play it again and see if I get a better ending. Edit: just finished my 2nd play through of the 3rd story. It really takes you for a ride. And what makes this one stand out is that it takes you on a wildly different journey than the first playthrough. I think I got a good ending but it ended so abruptly! I will play again and see if I can save all of camp amnesia.

  • Heroes were lost review: Character doesn’t do what you choose May 7, 2021

    By Bdonoho
I’m playing “and their heroes were lost” and I got really frustrated with how often I would rewind an arc and try to avoid a character going to a place or cooperating with a person, only for the character to all but ignore the choice I made. An example: you’re in Berlin and you decide you don’t want to be seen by police. A car comes and, knowing it’s a police car, you choose to hide. Your character DOES hide, for a brief moment, then decides on their own that they want to talk to the police, so they flag down the car! It felt like my choice didn’t matter at all, and that was the sort of thing that got to me. Too many times I wanted to avoid chains of events that would lead to someone spraying me with that stupid nerve gas and it feels like there’s nothing you do can avoid it. It was very frustrating and while I definitely will play the other stories, “Their heroes were lost” felt too often like I was being railroaded.
  • Not working with my watch 🤷‍♀️ Jan 24, 2021

    By Steph Marie dods
Doesn’t work with my Apple Watch, even after turning the option on in settings. There are no instructions and after reading most bad reviews are for this reason with no response from the developer. Updates show bug fixes but obviously this isn’t one. I’ve even tried to google how to make it work with no avail. Developer should probably remove this option or respond to critics to solve the issue 🤔. Wanted to love it as much as most but I’m not inclined to play it on my phone if the developers could care less about the one star reviews asking for help. Not my kind of business 👎🏻
  • Subscription stopped working Feb 14, 2019

I enjoyed using this app for a few years on and off and purchased a subscription to allow me to continue to use the app without interruption. However, the subscription no longer works, despite the fact that they continued to automatically renew it. (And yes, I tried to use the “restore purchase” option to no avail. I was able to secure a refund through Apple, but it’s frustrating and disappointing that the app would take my money without providing any content or service. Messages directly to developer through their website were not returned.

Awesome app, well designed and the stories are well written. My biggest praise lies within the Ad reward system. The most fair and balanced ad system I've seen yet. Incredible app, can't wait for new stories.

I hardly ever leave a review if I’m not getting anything in return (not nice, I know), but I just had to say something about this game. Choices That Matter drew me in right off the bat with its first story, “And The Sun Went Out.” I’ve spent so many nights literally losing sleep over this game, it’s crazy. I could not put my phone down. Personally, I quickly formed an emotional attachment to the characters, and found myself taking way too long to make certain decisions throughout the story. Despite the fact that I am extremely satisfied with the ending I got, I wouldn’t mind playing this story over and over to see more possible endings. This is truly an amazing game, and I absolutely cannot wait to read the other two. Thank you so much.

It would get a perfect 5/5 if not for the fact you constantly get taken out of the experience to watch ads in order to earn choice tickets. Paying the $0.99 for 100 tickets is borderline a requirement. It is quite great otherwise though. 4/5 - *

I really enjoy this and I'm only in my first story, the soul eating one. I very much enjoy the detail and the story line. Once you start you can't stop, its so addictive. I probably spend 2 hrs a day on this and I really enjoy it. I just wish you got a couple more tickets for watching videos but I'm glad there's no limits on how often you can use them.
  • Very enjoyable, would love one more option setting Oct 6, 2020

I’m excited to explore all the titles offered in this app, because so far the stories are engrossing and suspenseful. I love choose-your-own adventures and this game presents them in a pleasing way. Except for one little thing, the blink tap icon is very distracting for my ADHD. It seems that it might be late for this BUT can there be an option to turn it off? Otherwise I am reading and rereading a lot which makes me want to exit the app often. If this is an easy enough fix I would rate this 5 stars.

This app has great stories that keep you engaged as long as you have "choice tickets". They allow you to make a decision and progress the story. You can purchase them or get free ones every few hours. I'm totally fine with this system (gotta make a profit somehow). I like to hoard up a bunch of free tickets and then get to binge read. I was saving them up again and had 18 of them but after I updated the app they got reset. Oh well. This is still one of the best text adventure stories that I have found though!

I enjoyed the story. The dialogue was a little off in parts but as a whole the narrative was excellent. There were some good twists and turns. I’ve only gone through once I plan on going through several more times to see what the different endings are. I like how at the end of each arc it tells you the percentage of people that are in the same position as you

I never would have believed I’d EVER type [much less think/feel] what I am about to ~ because books... real books, w/pages to turn, and weight you heft, and that smell so familiar, are so very indescribably important to me ~ but my first encounter w/this technology has been wonderful and I just want to thank whoever came up w/the initial idea of creating interactive stories ~ and this app’s creators, of course!!!! Thank you, very much.
  • Pretty good. Would be better if I wasn’t so cheap. Jun 18, 2019

I was actually quite enjoying this app. The only problem I really had was dealing with the tickets but watching ads to replenish them helped me get a break instead of losing myself in the story. Would’ve gave 5 stars if I didn’t have to deal with them at all but it is free so beggars can’t be choosers. 4 stars should do.

  • Don’t know anything about Chinese May 30, 2018

    By Secret Whisper
I’m surprised that the Australian government, which cooperated in making this game, doesn’t know that there are no such things as Chinese characters on a Chinese keyboard. The Chinese language has thousands of characters, and it would be impossible to fit them all on a keyboard. We use the English keyboard same as most other countries that have a primary language other than English.
  • Won’t Work on the Apple Watch Apr 24, 2021

    By Mymy312
I like the story line and the choices given for the game, my only complaint is that for some reason it doesn’t work on my Apple Watch. It just stays on the logo the entire time. I even tried to download and re-download to see if that would help, but no it didn’t.
  • Trouble with ads not playing? Jan 13, 2020

    By Dangernugget
Enjoying the story so far although I’m only 20 choices in. However, I can’t replenish my tickets by watching ads. The ads never begin a countdown. So far this has happened with the Toonz ad and the Word game one.

This would be a good text rpg game. If you didn't need tickets to play the game. I mean really one ticket per decision come on! The story i played was good, interesting, and it felt like my decisions mattered. But it is ruined by the tickets

    By Calibos77
I enjoyed using this app for a few years on and off and purchased a subscription to allow me to continue to use the app without interruption. However, the subscription no longer works, despite the fact that they continued to automatically renew it. (And yes, I tried to use the “restore purchase” option to no avail. I was able to secure a refund through Apple, but it’s frustrating and disappointing that the app would take my money without providing any content or service. Messages directly to developer through their website were not returned.
