  • I love the CBC News app! Jul 24, 2020

    By Cyberlis
I live in the US, but this news app is like a “breath of fresh air” because all you get is unbiased, straight-forward news (similar to Reuter’s) WITHOUT all of the stupid commercial advertisements that render the majority of US news articles unreadable. The advertisements on US news sites have gotten so bad that they cause the story’s content to “jump” constantly as ads are being loaded. I also love that I do NOT have to endure the endless, mind-numbingly stupid prompts instructing me to turn off ad-blockers in order to read an article! CBC News provides important world news stories that load quickly on my iPhone. (The only time I might have an issue is when I click on a news article that’s linked to an American publication.) It’s also good to see how the rest of the world views the US with all that’s currently been happening here! CBC is the best! All of the rest (BING, Google, Apple News, et. al) don’t compare and ultimately drive me crazy with their inundation of ads, auto-play of video content and pay-walls thresholds. CBC News is an excellent news app! Keep up the great work. (Everyone else, take note... this is how News should be presented!)

When I get notifications of news articles on my tablet and I click on it, it does not always take me to the article on my notification. And it seems hard to find the article as it is way down the list of articles.

This app has never let me down, and has sections for news that I can quickly keep up with. CBC news app is the first app I click on in the morning to get World news, along with local interest news and political news. Though don’t live in Canada, the perspectives on American politics help me.

I read CBC News. Occasionally streamline. I'm just noticing that the covid daily provincial numbers breakdowns by cumulative total, new cases and deaths was not available today. Appears to have been replaced by weekly averages. Don't like it 🤨

CBC paid for by the Canadian tax payer! The content should be updated more often, the content should be neutral and the content should be focused more on just Canadian news. None of the above is done!

Made me download app to read news article from web, then proceed to show me article from web once the download was complete. Garbage.
  • Experiencing technical difficulties? Feb 13, 2018

    By DON BARTO
I got this app in the hope of seeing some olympic highlights or live events. To date I’ve seen only the “technical difficulties” message on EVERY video I attempted to view, this has happened every day. Perhaps it is because I am in the USA and they don’t stream to IP addresses here, BUT , there is nothing on the App Store that indicates that. So I’ll probably be deleting this app soon.

I enjoyed the unbiassed and most accurate news articles not just about the most recent things that are happening but some of the background and minutia that can be found on the subject. The reporting seems to be unbiassed

Really like the dark mode, only complaint is the scrolling is a bit jittery. Would also like the pictures to be a bit bigger

I wish there would be more info graphics describing certain complicated matter (as the BBC often uses in their app articles).

This is a great app except that videos take forever to load. I don't know what the cause of that issue is.

The first I've taken an hour to read or view mainstream news in a while, and I was particularly impressed by the relation of one story to another thematically. I was 'catching up' on policing cyber crime as I haven't been able to protect myself from the effect of false, omitted or motivated information with my name on it. In terms of a fluid organizational grouping:"the set of selections made in a first use session" I see that the CBC is valuing the utility of relevant archives, as it should. :)

Often difficult to locate stories as some files under 'Regional' affect people many provinces away. Toronto and Ontario stories often appear on national tab. Division of regions is clearly irrational: Ontario has 7 regions, Alberta has 2, and BC (2x Alberta population) has one. All of Quebec (in the English app version) is represented by one region which is Montreal. As expected from the organization of the regions, the rural areas get very little coverage. Site is often filled with US newswire.

  • Sometimes useful mostly feminist propaganda Aug 26, 2018

By the great ogre from mars
CBC does offer some true journalism. However, for the past 15 years and certainly the past 6 years it seems what passes as the most important news is little more than feminist, minority, lgbtq ( and whatever new letters get added to that mix ) whining. I turn the channel when I get bombarded with that. Stick to news, not political propaganda.

It doesn't always load when clicking on notifications. Not great compared to other news apps, but the reporting is quality.
  • Not as good as NPR ONE Aug 27, 2018

    By Rev. R. McGlinchy
See NPR One App. The CBC App is lacking a stream of news catered to your previously listened-to content. Or, if there is one, it isn’t obvious. Though the fact that you can choose what story comes next is a better feature than NPR. A combination of both features would be better.

  • Too many ads Nov 6, 2020

    By TJ101011001
I get they need to make money off international users but the CBC has so many ads is basically unusable, you often have to watch 30s of an ad just to load an ad-filled article
  • Not worth it for the invasive ads May 8, 2020

    By Illuminaired
I used to use this app daily, but now I’m getting interrupted by super invasive full screen video ads that I can’t close?! That is where I draw the line. App deleted. I know ad revenue is important but that is unacceptable.
  • Too many notifications with default settings Jun 20, 2019

    By Eftca
CBC has opted to have Top Stories in notifications by default. Today alone I got 5 alerts from CBC. Fewer alerts should be the default.

It's most frustrating. Whenever I open an excerpt, I can't seem to finish the whole text. It always stops.
