  • I love the CBC News app! Jul 24, 2020

    By Cyberlis
I live in the US, but this news app is like a “breath of fresh air” because all you get is unbiased, straight-forward news (similar to Reuter’s) WITHOUT all of the stupid commercial advertisements that render the majority of US news articles unreadable. The advertisements on US news sites have gotten so bad that they cause the story’s content to “jump” constantly as ads are being loaded. I also love that I do NOT have to endure the endless, mind-numbingly stupid prompts instructing me to turn off ad-blockers in order to read an article! CBC News provides important world news stories that load quickly on my iPhone. (The only time I might have an issue is when I click on a news article that’s linked to an American publication.) It’s also good to see how the rest of the world views the US with all that’s currently been happening here! CBC is the best! All of the rest (BING, Google, Apple News, et. al) don’t compare and ultimately drive me crazy with their inundation of ads, auto-play of video content and pay-walls thresholds. CBC News is an excellent news app! Keep up the great work. (Everyone else, take note... this is how News should be presented!)

This app has never let me down, and has sections for news that I can quickly keep up with. CBC news app is the first app I click on in the morning to get World news, along with local interest news and political news. Though don’t live in Canada, the perspectives on American politics help me.

I open an article in the app. The app tells me that I should open the article in the app. I click on the button offered and it wants me to install the very app that I am at that moment using. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am a huge supporter of the CBC, but, guys, you are making it much harder for those of us who support you with such unnecessary annoyance.

I'm sent a notification about "breaking news", open the notification and it takes me to the app itself but never the article. Many times I can't even find the article I was notified about (which was the intention).

I enjoyed the unbiassed and most accurate news articles not just about the most recent things that are happening but some of the background and minutia that can be found on the subject. The reporting seems to be unbiassed

This app seems to have more ads than I remember from some time back. But my main complaint is that it seems to do a lot of background activity that depletes my iPhone 6s battery causing more cycling to be needed. I have all background activity choices turned off. I recently deleted the app and then reloaded a few days later but after a few days the same thing is happening. My senior software engineer son told me it must be buggy and to delete it, which I will do next.

The layout is not as good as some other news apps, like the Guardian. CBC seems to need a photo for every article like it's a kids book. However, it seems to be one of the best news sources in Canada.

Honestly, the app is a little shaky with videos. They also seem to scrape your data and punt out articles that they think you will 'click' on, rather than put together good and relevant, truthful news.

When you get headline alerts and then click the link it opens the app but almost never takes you to the story. Instead you have to scroll and scroll until you forget the headline that took you there in the first place!

CBC is so far up Justin Trudeau that his tonsils falling out his mouth. This app perpetuates the government funded mediocrity that has seen CBC lose all major sports and any semblance of a decent news and entertainment format. Makes me wish Canada would open up more of its broadcast channels to the world, or is CBC the best Canada can do?

The CBC continues to meet and exceed the standards of journalistic integrity. As a regular consumer of the audio and visual presentation of the CBC's local and international news I am always impressed with the granular details of the investigative reporting and debates..

  • Very Good Canadian News App Jul 1, 2011

    By Singlestick
Although the layout is a bit cluttered, this is an excellent news app. You get a full selection of national and international news, with sections devoted to text, video and photos. And although I have not fully used it yet, the feature that lets you save top stories for offline reading looks promising. Videos played crisply, with no problems or delays. The news photos were well selected. It is also interesting to see how there are subsections for news coverage in each Canadian province. I am a US user who likes to get the news perspective of world journalists. This app is very well executed and offers good content in a well designed package. Other news sites could learn from this example.

  • Sometimes useful mostly feminist propaganda Aug 26, 2018

By the great ogre from mars
CBC does offer some true journalism. However, for the past 15 years and certainly the past 6 years it seems what passes as the most important news is little more than feminist, minority, lgbtq ( and whatever new letters get added to that mix ) whining. I turn the channel when I get bombarded with that. Stick to news, not political propaganda.

  • Not as good as NPR ONE Aug 27, 2018

    By Rev. R. McGlinchy
See NPR One App. The CBC App is lacking a stream of news catered to your previously listened-to content. Or, if there is one, it isn’t obvious. Though the fact that you can choose what story comes next is a better feature than NPR. A combination of both features would be better.

Decent reporting. Poor editing; stories often linger for a long time. Obtrusive ads every single swipe up, and the same ad over and again for months. I appreciate and want a Canadian news perspective. Take some lessons from BBC and Guardian on formatting.

  • Experiencing technical difficulties? Feb 13, 2018

    By DON BARTO
I got this app in the hope of seeing some olympic highlights or live events. To date I’ve seen only the “technical difficulties” message on EVERY video I attempted to view, this has happened every day. Perhaps it is because I am in the USA and they don’t stream to IP addresses here, BUT , there is nothing on the App Store that indicates that. So I’ll probably be deleting this app soon.

  • Poor writing/incomplete stories Sep 8, 2018

    By Just taking up space!
I have found the “news” to be poorly written and spur of the moment. It is almost as if the writers are place on a 10 minute limit to find and write a story just so space is taken up. I expect more. Lacking quality reporting!
