You can help stop the spread of Covid-19More about this app
A key part of the contact tracing process is remembering where you have been over the last 5-10 days before testing positive. This helps contact tracers determine people you may have been near while you were infectious.
Care19 is a digital diary that records places you visit. Many of the places you visit can be recorded automatically by Care19 using the phone's location services. In some cases you may need to manually add an entry if the automated routines miss a place visit. This can happen based on a variety of environmental factors.
You will not be asked to provide any personally identifiable information within the app. Location data will only be shared with the North Dakota or South Dakota Department of Health if you consent upon testing positive for COVID-19. This is done by sharing a code number displayed on the “About” section of the app.
If you use the Care19 app outside of North and South Dakota it can be used as a memory aide if you test positive and are contacted by your state's Department of Health.
Care19 is a digital diary that can help you remember where you have been over the last 14 days. If you test positive for COVID-19, it's important to remember where you have been as part of the contact tracing process.
Places you visit can be added manually and, if you enable location services, the app will attempt to auto-detect locations in the background. Our goal would be to automatically capture about half of the places you visit, thus reducing the amount of work needed to maintain the list.
If you test positive for COVID-19, with your permission, this anonymous and confidential data can be shared with the Department of Health to more efficiently identify others with whom you were in contact with. Identifying contacts is key to slowing the spread of coronavirus.

Change the way we display new visited locations. If we are uncertain which business you visited we now put a question mark after the business name and show it in a different color.

We've changed the map in the Visited Place screen as it was causing crashes.
We've been hard at work over the last two weeks listening to your feedback. This new version of the app stops using the limited category list and now uses the name of the place you visit. Places can be changed and you can create your own places. This version also uses a different system to detect the locations you visit. This should result in fewer bad locations and fewer visits that you never made. This new system still requires you to be at a place for at least 10 minutes, sometimes more, before it will be recognized.
Added a map legend. Added some additional diagnostics to help improve location detection.
Handle the case where location settings is turned off at the phone level in a more intuitive way.
