Shiny but missing polish
Carcassonne functions, but it missing some features that hold it back from being truly great. 1) There really isn’t a simple way to play with your friends. Currently without a turn based option/notification system you’d all have to be available at the same to play a game together. Which isn’t ideal since people are busy. 2) The interface isn’t as intuitive as it should be. I had to stumble around all sorts of menus to try and find out how to change my color. 3) When waiting for your turn, you can’t plan ahead, since the interface is showing the AI’s tile. I suppose that’s the way the rules are written, but it’s a shame that you sometimes think it’s your turn and you have a great tile, only for you to realize that it was just showing you the computers instead. Finishing with some positives: The game plays smoothly and the placement options for where to put a tile are made to be obvious which I appreciate. I like the graphics and the animations. Options for playing with and without farmers is appreciated as are the toggle switches for being able to glance and see how the fields are currently owned/shaped. Carcassonne is a great game with nice new look that is lacking some features that keep it from giving you more value for your purchase. -
Getting too harsh of reviews
Lots of reviews are pretty harsh for a game that works pretty well, is a good adaptation, and looks decent. I’ve been playing single player and online with family and enjoyed both. Yes there is room for improvement but give them a chance to address the issues. Pros - good adaptation of actual game, intuitive interface, overall good art, AI keeps single player interesting, you can play with your friends online, you can set time limits such that playing with friends can essentially be turn based so games can go over many days, features like showing fields and tiles left is fun, seems only host of online game needs expansions for everyone to play expansion Cons - needs a recap feature because if you aren’t online at the end you can’t see how an online game ended, the chat in online play disappears every time you leave so you can’t have a dialogue, sometimes takes a moment to connect or disconnects but not terribly so, wish you could turn specific features in expansions on and off (e.g. use builder but not pig or just use tiles from expansions but not other mechanics), can only add friends to friends list if they are online. Overall I’ve enjoyed both the single and online play. Absolutely worth the cost if you enjoy the board game. -
I used to play this on Xbox 360 and this is pretty much the same. Works pretty good. Lots of expansions available (please make more.) Bit of a battery hog and switching apps results in having to reload the whole thing but whatcha gonna do.

Great mobile game. Graphics add to the experience. However, when playing 'Local' games against the AI it ALWAYS gets the majority of the Monasteries, which makes it tougher to win when, because of this, they are guaranteed around 20 extra points through Monasteries alone. It just didn't seem a random drawing of these cards. Tweak the formula and make it random, or at least fairer.

Not as good
I have the old Carcassonne and play online with some of my children. It works very well, when you are notified of your turn the app opens quickly and it is just very quick and slick. This new app is NOT better/faster. Oh sure the pieces bounce and the graphics are more vibrant but the game play is SO much slower even with things turned off in settings. You do get a notification when it’s your turn but opening the app takes a long time. If you leave the app open and switch to a different app or screen or put your screen to sleep, opening the app takes a long time. Let’s Speed things up please.

The app is solid, if a bit slow at times. Please add the option to double tiles, its absence is missed.

Awesome game but on AI turns this app runs SO SLOW

Seit geraumer Zeit ständig Fehler in verschiedenen Spielen, kann gerne mal ein Screenshot schicken, erbitte Support.

Good app version of the game, but it often disconnects, and has to log you back in. The worst part is that if you're not actively watching the game when it ends you never get to see the score!

Ok game - AI seems to be given advantage. I have played a number of games now and it seems like that the AI are given the monasteries and the key cards to always win. a bit frustrating.

Works great. Lots of fun. Pretty layout.
I think many reviews here are bitter about a previous app which no longer exists. I started playing table top Carcassone last week for the first time. Then bought the app a day later. I don’t know the old app. But this one is good and worth paying a couple of dollars for. You can play against a very good AI, the last one of the four is very tough (at least for me) - the others easier. You can play online against other players which also worked well for me. I didn’t notice any lag as some complained about. A brief tutorial for the first time player might be helpful when facing other humans. I’m still not sure what the icons in the game selection menu really mean and I have no idea what the ranking points are and how to gain or lose them. I’m also not sure if those games or with abbot and river or just standard. I didn’t buy any of the other expansions yet. In sum, I like it. I almost wouldn’t have bought it because of the reviews. But they seem to be more about other stuff than the app itself. -
1. Brilliant implementation of the physical board game with added graphical tweaks to make things clearer (ex: completed castles, roads, who owns which fields, etc) 2. One of the best games for online play with friends over a video call chat with some food & drinks. 3. Fits & performs perfectly on my S8+. Not cluttered at all. Makes good use of screen space. 4. Fitting background music & sound effects 5. Easy to understand tutorial and rules for reference

Doesn’t deserve all the negative reviews
I bought this game with some trepidation after seeing all the negative revues but I have had no problems with it at all. I feel like a lot of people were really attached to the original Carc app (which I never used) and so they are unfairly down on this one. The graphics are great. The game plays smoothly, the controls are easy to use, it has a lot of features that I really like like farm highlighting. The AIs are challenging at different levels. I haven’t had any trouble with online play or setting up a game against my wife. A lot of people have complained about the game just ending when the time you set at the beginning runs out. That sounds really annoying but I just always set it to the max (14 days or something) and it hasn’t been a problem. All in all I love Carcassonne as a board game and I really like how it was implemented here as an app. -
Not that bad
I have played this version on my pc while playing the former iOS game on my iPad and iPhone. I have always preferred this game to the other, and I was looking forward to its release in the App Store. I know everyone has their own preferences, but I don’t think this game is as bad as many of the reviews indicate. I really enjoy playing it and I’m glad to finally see it available for iOS!

Great game! Different levels of AI make it fun no matter what skill level you are. There are a few glitches and different rules that I'm not used to but over all would highly recommend. Have not tried online play.
-
A little glitchy and disconnects from the game quite frequently. If you have an older phone it'll take longer to reconnect. Things to improve: 1. Improvement to disconnection - either quicker reload or to stop the issue. 2. Buying expansions do not show on Family account phones.
-
I think it’s a lot of fun
This is a great game though I don’t think end game scoring of roads is correct. Sometimes it gives one point per incomplete other times the incomplete road scores 0. Can’t figure out a pattern. Other than that - great game. 5 stars once the road scoring Is fixed. Another nit. I bought all expansions. But winter is a waste. It limits the game to only that version. Would be nice to incorporate with other expansions.

Coming From The PC Version
This version of the app seems fine, but it might not be as good as the PC/desktop version. During the end game scoring the camera didn’t automatically pan or zoom so that I could see which items tiles were being included in the scoring. Overall it is passable but I think they need to make it zoom out at the end during the scoring step. -
