You may be a seasoned firearm user and you just need your Firearm Safety Certificate. Or you may be a beginner and need not only to pass DOJ written test, but also to feel confident at any Safe Handling Demonstration and to be safe while handling firearms on a day-to-day basis. Anyway, at AlphaSquared Technologies we strongly believe that everyone must know how to use firearms safely. So, we have created this application to help you with all these matters.
The application contains 300 questions, which help you to master your knowledge by practicing offline (you don't need an Internet connection) and, thus, utilizing your time better.
Our research demonstrated that the most effective preparation is achieved when practice tests contain 10 questions. So, the practice tests are formed to contain 10 questions each (but if you want, you can change it in settings).

I passed my test!!
May 5, 2020 This app really helped me a lot!! Most of the questions on my test were on this app! I ran through MANY of the quizzes on the app about 50 times until I kept getting no lower than 9/10. And even if I got them all right, i would review them all before moving on if there was a question I felt I got lucky on. I downloaded this last night and passed my test this morning with only one question wrong!!more -
Nov 2, 2020 Overall a pretty good representative example of actual test. FSC is twenty questions not the 10 used here. Overall questions are accurate however Photos diagrams are difficult to see. Pretty good comprehensive answers and explanations. It is free and that what works.more -
Incorrect info and poor photos!!- update required!
Mar 13, 2020 Same with other reviewers - the long gun age requirement is 21 not 18 in CA. Photos of some of the weapons and details on them such as a question about a particular sight on a gun are of poor quality. They really need to be bigger and not tiny thumbnails! And please have someone with a better grasp of English write these questions and answers: “Rudely and firmly” as an answer for how to insert a magazine into a gun. Seriously?? That said I would absolutely recommend this app to review for the FSC test. Questions are divided into sections of 10 after which you will see how you scored. You are able to go back and review the questions answered incorrectly. In some of them you will see an explanation about the correct answer. New questions are added to each quiz while the rest of them will be repeats. Be careful as many questions use double negatives. Keep moving thru all the quizzes until you score 100 on every one of them and don’t keep seeing new questions. Even when I got every question right I would go back after and review the answers in preparation for the real test. Once you’ve done that - the actual FSC test should be easy. (It’s actually a little addicting - yto strive for that 100 grade after the 10th question).more -

You have no idea where you are in the testing, where you left off or how many more of the questions there are to answer. 3.) The same questions are repeated many times. Which is not necessarily a bad thing......but come on the same questions 5, 6, or 7 times is wasteful. 4.) I just finished the real test at the gun dealers and found some questions that I did not remember seeing in this app. All this is free on the internet so I feel a little rip off since I paid for this app and found is very lacking in substance. I gave the developers five stars for at least putting something out there. But come on people make it an excellent product not something we walk away from feeling that we were lied to.more

Apr 25, 2020 I just downloaded and read the manual for DOJ California. I've taken all their practice test and passed with 100% on all 5 chapters. Many questions here do not reflect the answers that the DOJ looks for. Example - you can make your answer deemed right by the DOJ handbook but this app will consider your answer incorrect. Maybe this app needs to update according to the DOJ standards for the state of California. As of right now this app will throw you off if you have read the DOJ manual.more -
Jul 21, 2019 Two questions in their practice test are flat out wrong and I knew it but answered them on the test the way practice test had them anyway and got two wrong on the actual test because this product I paid for wasnt properly gone through before release. Even the DOJ website itself isnt up to date on the laws pertaining to those two questions. That's pretty unprofessional. The question about gun buying age and what line of safety is a safety were both botched in practice test and differ from actual.more -

Feb 2, 2021 The exam is not particularly difficult. The pdf that the state produced does have nearly all the answers. With that said, if you’ve read the pdf and can’t pass the tests in this app, You aren’t prepared for the real test. If take the tests in this app 10-15 times and pass them successfully with 90% or better. You’re ready for the real testmore -
Jun 3, 2020 Passed the exam with flying colors with this app and studying up on the FSC study guide. This practice exam definitely offers more content and detail than the actual test itself, but it offered me more insight and a deeper knowledge of gun safety. This allowed me to use the actual study guide more as a reference point to better understand the questions. I highly recommend this app.more -

Nov 13, 2020 Took my test today and got one wrong out of 30. This little app comes in handy if you really want to make sure you are ready to take the test. I used the app for about a week off and on when I had down time. The test questions were pretty basic. This was extremely helpful.more

My main complaint is that the pictures are so small and can't be enlarged, it is sometimes very hard or impossible to tell which part of a weapon (especially on black pistols) is pointed at or whether a grip is good.more -
Jun 13, 2020 Pretty straightforward app, just kept taking the quizzes for about an hour, got 100% on my FSC Test the same day and it took me 5 minutes to finish. It would be better if it pulled new questions each test, sometimes I would get a majority of the same questions. Some questions in these quizzes were overkill (I had version 2 of the test and none of the picture questions were on it) but it helps to give more knowledge in general which I don't mind, but maybe have these in a separate quiz.more -

Sep 2, 2020 There are several misleading, convoluted questions that do not test ones knowledge of the subject matter. These do a disservice to the to the student and others who benefit from properly taught individuals. -
Useful, but needs to be updated
May 18, 2019 I took the test and passed. However, I would have scored higher had the test questions been updated. The CA laws have changed, but the test has not been updated to reflect them. One in particular is that the age limit for long gun purchases is now 21 instead of 18.more

Apr 25, 2020 I just downloaded and read the manual for DOJ California. I've taken all their practice test and passed with 100% on all 5 chapters. Many questions here do not reflect the answers that the DOJ looks for. Example - you can make your answer deemed right by the DOJ handbook but this app will consider your answer incorrect. Maybe this app needs to update according to the DOJ standards for the state of California. As of right now this app will throw you off if you have read the DOJ manual.more -

Oct 28, 2020 The only benefit of this app was it increased my test anxiety. The test came right from the states study guide off the states website. This app had gun parts for long guns, ammo specifics, and other irrelevant info. Out of each 10 question quiz maybe 2 questions were similar to what was on the test.more -
Dead App
Jan 16, 2020 The developer for this app is no longer making improvements or changes at all. The questions are very limited, and not all content is covered. There’s maybe 30 different questions that get repeated over and over and some of them are completely wrong, like the current legal age for purchasing handguns in California which is 21, not 18. Would not recommend this app to anyone. *** I’m more than happy to change my review once I see improvements to the app. For now, I’ll be getting a refund. ***more
What’s Groovy
This test helped me study for the FSC test easily! I passed with a 29/30, missing only 1 due to some outdated information (long gun purchases now require the customer be 21+). If that information were fixed, I would gladly change this to a 5/5 star rating. Very thankful for this app!

What’s Subpar
It might be ok as a study tool, but it's rather unprofessionally developed. Many of the questions and answers had grammar and spelling mistakes, and some of them relied on picture references which couldn't be reliably interpreted. Definitely not worth the price.

A big help
This app is great for a complete rookie (me). I really appreciate the extra information bundled in with the regular test questions. My one critique is that as of 2019, 18 year olds can no longer buy long guns and the app has not been updated to reflect this. That said, thank you so much for the app and the care you put into it! -

Got 30 out of 30 when I tested. Only thing off on the prep test is buyers need to be 21 to purchase rifles, not 18. Test was written only, no pictures on mine. Which is good cuz I wasn’t doing well with the differences on the single action/double action revolver questions 😄 -
Great app, has all the info you need to pass the test. I was able to pass on the first try with all 30 questions correct.

This app was easy to use. I ready the study guide then used this app several times a day. Passed the test real easy and only took me 5 minutes to complete. -

Lol this test is definitely not the same as what is actually given and in fact is much harder than the test. Still going thru it gives you a thorough knowledge to easily pass the test

This app has questions on it that aren't covered in the FSC handbook with no explanation of the answers. The pictures are too small and too dark to make out details.

Bad. Alot of the questions on here arent even on the study guid book. How am i suppose to know a question when the book does not even cover the tipic of the question. Afwul.

This app should have an option to study 300+ questions instead of going through them randomly.

Too many questions that are NOT on the FSC test

Irrelevant to the test
The only benefit of this app was it increased my test anxiety. The test came right from the states study guide off the states website. This app had gun parts for long guns, ammo specifics, and other irrelevant info. Out of each 10 question quiz maybe 2 questions were similar to what was on the test. -
Dead App
The developer for this app is no longer making improvements or changes at all. The questions are very limited, and not all content is covered. There’s maybe 30 different questions that get repeated over and over and some of them are completely wrong, like the current legal age for purchasing handguns in California which is 21, not 18. Would not recommend this app to anyone. *** I’m more than happy to change my review once I see improvements to the app. For now, I’ll be getting a refund. ***
