How has this got so few reviews!? Fantastic app. Clean, simple, informative, excellent for identifying and learning trees. Great app and free! Thanks woodland trust.

The identification questions, selected by the app based on the clues you tell it you see in front of you, work well and intuitively. It would be nice if it were tolerant of mistaken answers, though (e.g. if a leaf looks somewhere between elliptical and oblong, and I answer elliptical but the database says it's oblong, the correct tree won't be listed as a possible match). Its database of possible tree species could be larger, too. The map of notable trees is data-hungry and crashed on me.

Excellent app for identifying British trees. If you find something that isn't in the app is probably a foreign plant. The map of local trees is good, they seem to have fixed the GPS inaccuracy. Still got room for improvement but an excellent app. My biggest problem is closing a lead shape, wish there were fewer options of more general leaf shapes before the more detailed questions.

Not happy wanted to snap a picture and have it run through a database of sorts. But I'm left scouring through loads of possibilities. Not too happy.

There are so many trees missing from this app. It's quite unbelievable. You will be much better off buying a tree identifier ebook.

Good app but the map feature could be better. Entering an address manually doesn't work. And it just crashed on me after entering a few trees (Oppo Find lite)

Not great. Limited trees available on app, choice system fails with lack of options. Uninstalled after 10 minutes! Try using Google Lens instead.

25% of the time, it works every time. Very limited number of trees in data bank (I guess this is more for UK trees rather than trees found in UK?). Winter ID is awful. Identifies oak, birch and monkey puzzle well though! Look forward to updates particularly on barks and additional species.

I was very disappointed with the logging of identified trees. The map does not work correctly, the GPS seems to want to put you on a road, so if you are in a park or the countryside it locates you on a nearby motorway, even though Google Maps shows my true location. You have to drag on the map and get it as close as you can by comparing to Google Maps, and it saves as "Unnamed Road". Why can't it just save coordinates? It should be automatic using the GPS.

The app was disappointing because you need to go through a whole set of questions to identify the tree, but then it identifies the tree wrongly. Eg it said my magnolia tree is a box, which is obviously wrong. Then it said some other tree was a plum, no matter what colour and shape of leaf I inputted. I was expecting it to use the camera on my phone in some way, but it didn't. Basically frustrating

Great app. Wish it had more species, or let me add my own. Also, I think it shouldnt discount certain questions based on previous answers. For example. It I choose a tree with a certain leaf type, I should not have options limited later when it comes to bark type. Rather. All options should be available, and more tree species listed if you give inconsistent answers. That way the user is more likely to find the right tree, and also, they get to use a bit of their own intuition.

A great idea for an app, it is a little clunky to use sometimes but is a great way to get people interested in trees. My only complaint is the limited number species on the app, we have many trees in our 2 acre wooded garden that are not listed, like the Catalpa, Tree of Heaven, Round Leaf Whitebeam, Weeping Willow, Paper Birch, Monarch Birch, Purple Willow, Laburnum etc. so having a greater number/more comprehensive list of trees would be great.

Great concept - tree identification in your pocket - and that part works fine. The problem is, some other key parts don't. There is a feature where you can add your own photos and notes including the photo location. Unfortunately this feature causes the application to crash. Frequently. Therefore what you have is a handy identification guide but minus any ability to add custom photos, which is big pity.

I found the app a bit confusing to use and many of the terms used were not clear to me. Often there wasn't a clear answer to a question though perhaps that's just my lack of observation. Navigation was a bit cumbersome in that you selected an answer and then clicked continue. I couldn't find the home button either. I'd of preferred it if questions with easy answers were asked first rather than giving you that nagging doubt that you'd gone down the wrong rabbit hole. Another approach might be to know where the user is walking and then grab the common trees in that area or even the names for all the individual trees in that area. These identifications could come from other users of the app. This could be expanded to ask trusted users how many of a type of tree there are in the immediate vicinity and so do a real time count of trees by type. Maybe even offer a search for the nearest tree of a certain type. Perhaps even interesting trees in your local area. Using the app we could only identify half the common trees in our area which was a bit disappointing.

Map kept crashing. I added a tree with photos but it came to nothing. The lack of trees on the map may be an indication that the app does not function as intended. It gave me incorrect information on trees to the point that I couldn't trust its accuracy. It needs developing, I hope it is maintained and improved because it could be an excellent tool.

Identification doesn't really work well especially when you don't have a lot to go on. You tell it the leaves are opposite and then it tells you it must be something that clearly has alternating leaves. You say the leaves are long so it tells you you've got a monkey puzzle as if you could possibly mix that up with a willow. Would prefer it kept options open instead of jumping to ridiculous conclusions.
