  • Great Game Feb 4, 2020

I really enjoy this game. Ads are minimal and although there's the option to pay for some puzzle packs, I've been playing for a few years and haven't spent a dime. I'd love to spend the 13,000+ coins I've accumulated on new Showcase Packs if anymore ever become available though. For now I'm just playing the daily shuffles and occasional bonus puzzles. Some of my favorites are the mystery clue puzzles for their extra challenge. I also like having the option of being able to get a small clue (or several if I need them) by watching a short ad. I keep the sound off and the ads are short so they don't bother me at all. Highly recommend this one if you enjoy word puzzles.

Excellent. Great little app. Don't understand the reviews mentioning intrusive ads - I haven't even had one ad, except when I chose to, to get a hint, and I haven't paid for a premium version or anything. Makes me use my brain; not quite as hard as a crossword but that's the beauty - easy to dip in and out of. Nice, easy interface and plenty of puzzles to choose from. Love it!
  • Almost really great Jan 4, 2019

Lots of fun and a different take on crossword puzzles, I found this game addictive enough to blaze through all the free content in under a week. Now I can only do a couple ( literally 2 ) free daily shuffles each day while I slowly acquire points to spend on puzzle packs, or buy the packs at a dollar a piece. Problem is the packs are not very large and playing through them would get expensive quick. But maybe I am just cheap. But what bothers me more than the rest of that is how community content is handled. Free daily shovels all seem to be made up of randomly selected community contributed puzzles. Furthermore, these puzzles can be rated upon completion, and I am guessing the higher rated puzzles are used more often. The problem is that the puzzles you create don’t seem to link back to your account and don’t earn any kind of reward for being highly rated. I would love to be able to earn credits towards other puzzle packs for writing good content, and that seems more than fair given how much user retention relies upon this community generated content.

This game is sensational & addictive. It definitely drives your brain. Very unique gameplay. I simply love it. The only reason I am giving it 4* is because I am finding it difficult to login and at times, the game freezes and all I can see is a black screen on my mobile phone. Highly recommended though for those who love solving puzzles and crosswords.

I truly love this game. It's challenging and fun yet relaxing. I love the concept and that you can even create puzzles. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is there are too many ads in certain aspects of the game. Also that the reward is should be bigger for completing the daily puzzles not same as others and must pay 35 coins if you want next one through the daily puzzles. It would be really nice if there was a daily reward of 25 coins or more for playing. This helps build up coins better. Thanks
  • Nice on many levels, just one annoying flaw Dec 11, 2017

I like this game. It's well designed, has no annoying pop ups or ads that intrude on your play. I even like the music, which is more than I can say about any other game I've ever played. The game itself is basic but can be challenging as well. It had only one flaw, but it's a big one. I've played this game for many hours, but I'm about ready to throw my phone across the room because the background moves the same way the pieces move. What I mean is that you use one finger to move the (teeny tiny, on a phone screen) word fragments around, but the whole screen also moves with only one finger. So when you mean to reach for a word, you often end up moving the whole board. It's maddening and entirely unnecessary. Simply make the background adjustable with two fingers rather than one. I mean, who thought this was a good design? Please fix this intensely irritating flaw.

Love this game. Puzzles are not too hard or too easy. Never see ads unless I want to get a hint. No problems with game play at all. Love that I can create my own puzzles. Have even shared a couple with a family member in another city! Every puzzle has a theme. So, if you are familiar with the theme you will have an easier time solving it. Highly recommend this game.
  • Great Game - possible improvements Jul 3, 2018

I’ve been playing this game for a few months now, and really enjoy it. I do have a few ideas for improvements. 1. Right now when you complete a puzzle the screen quickly changes to a zoomed out view and the request to watch a video or play another daily shuffle pops up. This prevents the player from being able to see the completed puzzle in detail. Sometimes I struggle with the last word and am just trying various combinations. The screen changes so fast I don’t even know what that last word was. 2 It May not be worth the effort, but being able to type in a letter and have all of those letters throughout the screen light up would be helpful and keep the eyes from crossing.

I don't think this is the first game to use this concept but the implementation is really great. It's easy to freely create your own puzzles and there are plenty of puzzle packs available, for a wide range of abilities. Free daily and weekly puzzles ensure you always have something to do and help you grind coins for buying more puzzles. Great work!

I have a short attention span for phone games but I just keep coming back to this one. It’s not repetitive; there’s a huge range of topics; and the game doesn’t badger you to make in-app purchases. The use of ads in this game is clever because you always have the option of turning them down, but if you choose to watch it it gives you double the “reward” for completing a puzzle, which then can go towards unlocking the next puzzle pack. If you get stuck on a puzzle, you can get hints by watching short ads, which again, are optional. I showed this game to my parents who now also play it!

I wanted to like this game, but the ad implementation is just too annoying. I like to listen to things other than the games, and these ad take over the media player for the duration they play. Even the ads that mute, if resume playback on music ir something, and the ad pauses. Then you can't resume the game. It's really that stupid.
  • Not worth the price Jan 10, 2019

    By thefferon
The puzzle interface is new and addicting, and for the most part is done well. However I have two complaints. Once you get past the free levels this app charges you for each pack. A pack only gets you so far, and if you want to keep playing you will pay for it - a lot more than you expected, and a lot more than the puzzles are worth. The game feels too much like a greedy scam, and it's off-putting. My second complaint is a related one; namely that many of the puzzles are far too easy, and some are quite brief - my 4-year-old could have come up with them. In some cases they only contain three words. Especially I f I am paying for a puzzle pack, I don't want to get garbage in exchange. The game is medium-fun, but it should have been sold at $1.99 - for all the content. I am disillusioned and disappointed in the New York Times for this.
  • Please respect our silent settings Jul 28, 2019

    By kodiakak
I love this game. I’ve been playing for years BUT I can only play when I know it’s ok for my phone to make noise. Even when my phone is set to silent, your advertisements often make noise - and not just soft noise - by the time I can locate the mute icon, it is too late. The damage has already been done. I would think that your advertisers would want us to play the game more so that we will see more ads. If the ads make noise, we play the game less. Please respect our silent settings. I would give this app a 5 star review if not for the inability to set the ads to silent before they play.
  • It’s recently changed - not good Jun 21, 2021

    By RunAndKickGirl
Until recently, my entire family played this game. There used to be an option to get a free hint if you watched an ad for 30-40 seconds. Then we started seeing an ad that featured the backsides of 3 women with an exaggerated sway to their walk, then switches to a hand pointing/poking a woman’s breast. That game is rated 17+ on the App Store. Soon there was another change: no more free hints. A hint now costs 15 points, a new 30-puzzle pack costs 220 points, but you only earn 5 points for solving each puzzle. Players are now forced to spend real money to play a word puzzle game, which is rather ridiculous considering most of the puzzles are user-created. BYE BYE, BONZA.
  • Good but flawed Mar 31, 2018

    By LVNG784
Game was clearly designed for you to shell out cash for in game coins or watch endless amount of ads just to progress at a decent pace. Vague mystery clues are frustrating, for example clue for this puzzle is "S--------". Really? Might as well take away the S and let us guess the entire clue before we can even start solving things. Hints are just as vague. For example your first hint is it starts an "H". Majority of ads are a lengthy 30 second. Nothing like sitting through 30 second ads for a pitiful hint. Found myself spending more time watching ads than actually playing game at the layer levels.
  • Good idea but... Sep 23, 2018

    By corked brain
Like so many apps these days the free version is ad supported. Which is fine but when there is a pop up after every puzzle completion it gets annoying. Ok, I’ll bite and click an add to support the dev because the game is actually interesting. Except that I can’t actually get OUT of the ad and have to close the game; the only thing that happens when you press anywhere on the screen is you link to the advertisement. No X to exit? No wait 30 seconds and it’ll go away? Nope. Bad review here and then the app is getting deleted.
  • Enjoyable game but they force you to pay to unlock levels after a bit Jun 12, 2019

    By Brianala
I really enjoyed this game, and I’d be happy to pay a flat rate for the game as a whole, but instead they force you to keep paying to unlock new levels at a certain point. Technically you can use coins you earn to unlock new puzzles, but after a certain point you no longer earn enough coins to unlock new levels. I’m not a fan of micro transactions so I’m uninstalling this game, which is a disappointment as it’s a very creative and fun word puzzle game.
  • Puzzles Repeat Jun 2, 2019

    By angks21
I’ve been playing for quite a while now, and have actually purchased new puzzle packs. But what I have found is that even in the new puzzle packs, I’m getting repeated puzzles that I’ve already played in other packs. The free daily puzzles, as well as the bonus puzzle that pops up once in a while is something I’ve already played before. Seems to be happening more and more lately too. Doesn’t seem worth my time and money anymore.
  • Too many ads Dec 24, 2019

    By Phantomsue
I want to like this game but there is way too many ads that are repetitive and just down right boring-you even have to watch an ad for bonus points- it used to be a great game but is now horrible because of so many ads - I want to stimulate my brain not put it to sleep- the words are broken into too many pieces too do you can’t figure out the answer and have to watch another boring, repetitive ad- I’ve deleted this game until you fix the BORING-REPETITIVE ADS-BORING REPETITIVE ADS-BORING REPETITIVE ADS-BORING REPETITIVE ADS/ BORING REPETITIVE ADS
  • Was really enjoying until classic pack 7 Dec 28, 2018

    By suible
Then I opened classic pack 7. Any puzzle one can do in less than two minutes with zero thought is not worth doing. Up until this pack, the puzzles have been great. I even started paying for puzzles. I'm guessing this app will soon be deleted. The puzzles are extremely simple and easy ... and worthless. Not worth doing, let alone paying for. Disgusted.

Pretty nice game so far...subtle, non-distracting sound track that i really love...played in bed without disturbing the night. Puzzles steadily increase in difficulty, without starting off so simple as to be instantly boring!! Bonanza will also suggest/allow Unlock of new puzzle pack during play with consistent solving. These developers have also shown great RESPECT for players in their thoughtful AD use and placement, earning my absolute loyalty!! Addictive & challenging, this is a high quality word game. Discerning Developers who actually seem to consider the player experience, instead of AD revenue. These guys have earned my loyalty! Can’t wait for New Game!!
  • Fun, challenging, and a model for ad-supported games Apr 2, 2019

    By palabrajot
Bonza has a great pick-up-and-play way about it, and I absolutely love its ad delivery model: when you’re stuck in a puzzle, you have the option of watching a video ad to unlock a free hint. You can unlock new puzzle packs with the in-game currency, (earned either by opting in to watch a video ad or by trading actual money for them,) but if you’re a casual player, a free game drops every day. Buy to own might be best, but if you’re going to do a freeplay game, this is a refreshing change from similar games that beat you over the head with sponsored content after every puzzle.

Love this cross between a crossword and a jumble puzzle. I’m a big fan of word games and love this one a lot! Nice and mellow. No competitions or tournaments! I just want to solve puzzles! There’s a huge collection to choose from and the puzzles vary in difficulty, though I think your knowledge of the clue topic is key. The mystery puzzles (where the clue is not completely given) are super fun because you’re working both sides of the puzzle. Highly recommend, especially if you like words! And right now, the developers have generously made the classic puzzles free to keep our minds active during our social distancing times! Thank you Bonza! You rock!
  • Fun, Bite-size Puzzles Nov 5, 2020

Think of this as a cross between jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. Some levels are definitely more challenging than others, but it’s an easy game to pick up for a couple of minutes, or get sucked into for hours. A nice exercise for the mind. Note: I had a hard time finding a lot of details about the Jumbo Packs. They contain the same number of puzzles as other packs, but the puzzles are much larger and definitely take a little more time. And solving each one gives you 10 coins instead of 5. They’re worth checking out.

A pleasant game, pretty tricky. I strongly dislike how the 30 second ads now take me out of the game at their conclusion, and I have to navigate back in, at which point there's another five second portion of the ad I have to sit through.

It would be an absolutely amazing game if the game just had more content. Sometimes I get stuck on a puzzle and have nothing else to do other than watching a dozen ads to reveal the extremely obscure last answer. Even though the game starts to get really boring after a while, I still enjoy the game, and think that it it a great addition to my apps.
  • the jumbos make it finally hard enough to be fun Sep 2, 2018

    By arblgrv
I liked this game when it started, but it had some flaws. There were way too many easy puzzles and no way to know if the puzzle you chose was a three word or a twelve word type. Too many puzzles had repetitive subjects as well, and many of them (like ‘breakfast’ or ‘beach’ or ‘periodic table’) share the same answers. So for me, it was boring and rather pointless to play the game for a while. Then they introduced the jumbo puzzles and suddenly it’s fun again. There are lots more pieces to work with and the answers are more interesting. I do wish the packs were less expensive, though.

I really love this app. It's a great way to pass time and it saves your progress if you close it and come back to a puzzle later. My favorite packs are the jumbo packs which can take quite a bit of time to solve. The UI is easy to navigate and easy on the eyes, not too bright. A few parts of puzzles can be very difficult, if not impossible, to solve without hints because of geographical language differences having different words for certain things.

Very challenging. Maneuverability of the pieces is very simple. Only suggestion I have it as a level gets higher and it gets harder, when you have to buy the levels don't make it so much money. Make it one price and that's it. I think more people would play that way.

Ignore the ads complaints! All these folk moaning about ads obviously don't have a clue how they work. Yes, it may open the Play Store but you get the reward so big whoop! Excellent game, challenging and easy, depending on the puzzle and clue. Really forces you to think which is a good thing! 1 star away because sometimes it doesn't load but gets stuck about 75% along. Real shame.
  • Good but flawed Apr 29, 2018

This is a fun, often challenging puzzle game. I've been playing for years but an update changed the "free hints", and not for the better. Before, if you watched a 30 sec ad, you got the entire answer. Now, you only get one tile. What's worse is, sometimes it takes another 15-30 secs for the clue to appear. Sometimes you never see the clue. I don't have time to wait for an answer that never shows. I'll play something else instead.

Innovative game. The point-scoring system is flawed. For a simple crossword I get 5 points - OK; for a massive jumbo one, after 1/2 hour struggle, just 10 points - not OK! The packs are outrageously "costly". For 220 points, and a 30-clue pack, one gets a measly 10 extra points in total. I don't know about jumbo pack. I won't suffer to get only 10 points extra. This is utterly stupid and illogical. Please make it worthwhile for all the hardwork. Have difficulty levels and different points.

The game is fine, but gets repetitive. There are a lot of levels that are almost exact duplicates. Some also have obscure references that I'm sure the level maker thought were clever, but just make the game worse. If the category is "Famous Rock Bands" then it shouldn't include some local indie band that 90% of people have never heard of. Finally (and the biggest complaint)... I don't mind ads, but they should NEVER open the play store on their own. They do in this game.

Nice game let down by the interface. The word puzzles are challenging but satisfying; however, the user interface is poorly designed. I'm constantly inadvertantly bringing up a menu that skips or resets the level when I try to drag a playing tile from the right. Very frustrating.
  • Loved this game until recently Jul 15, 2019

I’ve been playing Bonza for a couple of years and I love the game. Unfortunately, there must have bugs with the last update. I do occasionally get stuck and need a hint. Lately, the game locks when you press hint. Instead of getting an ad, you get a blank screen which is impossible to get rid of unless you reboot the game. It is most frustrating. Today it happened on the same word three times. It was the. That I decided to write a review in the hopes that someone would read it and fix the bugs.

The concept is good and so is the gameplay. But the levels have several issues. Many have obscure answers that sometimes aren't even relevant to the hint while most common or logical ones are missing. Some levels even require specific knowledge of things or places which restrict the game to certain subset of people. It feels as if game is designed for you to view ads or pay for hints so you can progress. Moreover how can you allow ads to open play store w/o permission is beyond my understanding.
  • Guest Designer Puzzle Pack quality inconsistent Jan 14, 2018

    By Rong Speler
I like the game and like saving up points to get a puzzle pack by the guest designers, but some of the guest designer puzzles are childishly simplistic. Some are great, but I had one pack of 20 puzzles where 10 or more took less than 30 seconds each by a so-so level player. The average 5th grader wouldn’t have taken any longer. Then some designer packs are loaded with the best, cleverest puzzles. Someone should review/edit/qc the guest puzzles, and get rid of the designers that “phone it in”.
  • Great game....but... May 8, 2018

    By MommaCop37
I would love to give this a five star rating, but I can't because you get just enough "free" packs to get you hooked, and then you either cough up a pretty penny, or try to use the coins you've earned. I don't remember the exact cost of the paid ones, but it was pretty steep considering the game. As for the coins, you win 5, yes a whopping...but each pack costs either 220 or, even worse, 1000!! So, it's a fun game...while it lasts.
  • Horizontal Issue Apr 26, 2018

    By Nmblr
I like the puzzle a lot but I play it on an iPad in horizontal mode. After exiting the puzzle, the apps that normally appear at the bottom of the screen (most recently used apps) do not appear. I must use the vertical mode to see them. The fix seems to be to power the device off and on again. Sort of annoying.

  • Good but flawed Mar 31, 2018

  • What's going on in the background? Oct 12, 2020

    By Indybart
Let me start by saying this is one of my favorite iOS games of all time. BUT I have had to delete it. While playing my phone gets very hot and the battery drains like a sieve. Not sure what is going on in the background because the game on the screen shouldn't be using that many cycles. Too bad, because like I said, great game.

Disgusted.
