  • Great Game Feb 4, 2020

I really enjoy this game. Ads are minimal and although there's the option to pay for some puzzle packs, I've been playing for a few years and haven't spent a dime. I'd love to spend the 13,000+ coins I've accumulated on new Showcase Packs if anymore ever become available though. For now I'm just playing the daily shuffles and occasional bonus puzzles. Some of my favorites are the mystery clue puzzles for their extra challenge. I also like having the option of being able to get a small clue (or several if I need them) by watching a short ad. I keep the sound off and the ads are short so they don't bother me at all. Highly recommend this one if you enjoy word puzzles.

Honestly, it's pretty fun! Took a minute to wrap my head around it, but it's a fun new take! Though, I'm considering deleting it solely to the ads. The ads only generally appear as a hint payment, which is totally fine with me - what I hate is how some of them bring me to the download page without me clicking on it. Maybe it's a personal issue, but it's something I can't stand, it doesn't make me want to refer it to friends because of it. Past that - truly a fun game!

  • Almost really great Jan 4, 2019

Lots of fun and a different take on crossword puzzles, I found this game addictive enough to blaze through all the free content in under a week. Now I can only do a couple ( literally 2 ) free daily shuffles each day while I slowly acquire points to spend on puzzle packs, or buy the packs at a dollar a piece. Problem is the packs are not very large and playing through them would get expensive quick. But maybe I am just cheap. But what bothers me more than the rest of that is how community content is handled. Free daily shovels all seem to be made up of randomly selected community contributed puzzles. Furthermore, these puzzles can be rated upon completion, and I am guessing the higher rated puzzles are used more often. The problem is that the puzzles you create don’t seem to link back to your account and don’t earn any kind of reward for being highly rated. I would love to be able to earn credits towards other puzzle packs for writing good content, and that seems more than fair given how much user retention relies upon this community generated content.

A twist on word games, fun and challenging. HOWEVER, you have to sit through very annoying video ads you can not mute, then when that is done there is another ad! Way too much time for an ad. After one day of play, I UNINSTALLED the game.

  • Nice on many levels, just one annoying flaw Dec 11, 2017

I like this game. It's well designed, has no annoying pop ups or ads that intrude on your play. I even like the music, which is more than I can say about any other game I've ever played. The game itself is basic but can be challenging as well. It had only one flaw, but it's a big one. I've played this game for many hours, but I'm about ready to throw my phone across the room because the background moves the same way the pieces move. What I mean is that you use one finger to move the (teeny tiny, on a phone screen) word fragments around, but the whole screen also moves with only one finger. So when you mean to reach for a word, you often end up moving the whole board. It's maddening and entirely unnecessary. Simply make the background adjustable with two fingers rather than one. I mean, who thought this was a good design? Please fix this intensely irritating flaw.

Update: After years of playing Bonza and Bonza Planet, I have thrown in the towel. Nothing but repetitive crowd sourced puzzles and blaring sound on ads. Even when I cut the sound in the app and mute the sound on my device it somehow breaks through. That is so disrespectful of users and a terrible marketing strategy. Despite having accumulated over 23,000 coins in Bonza and 22,000 coins in Bonza Planet I have deleted both apps. ***** I have been playing Bonza and Bonza Planet since their inception and have bought every puzzle pack available. They used to be my favorite games. The original packs were fun and a great way to get the grey matter firing in the morning. The problem is that there have been no new puzzle packs for sale for years. The only puzzles available are the daily puzzles which are 100 percent crowd sourced, very limited in scope and extremely repetitive. It’s a constant litany of: colors, Australian animals, makes of cars, breakfast items etc. It’s rare to find something that is thought provoking or challenging. Really good word puzzles mature and grow. This one is dying from neglect. I am truly disappointed.

Good and entertaining game but ridiculous when it comes to ads. It is okay having ads once in a while as annoying as they are but having the bloody nuisance that the ads open the play store without me wanting to go to the download page, that is way too cheeky...

The puzzle interface is new and addicting, and for the most part is done well. However I have two complaints. Once you get past the free levels this app charges you for each pack. A pack only gets you so far, and if you want to keep playing you will pay for it - a lot more than you expected, and a lot more than the puzzles are worth. The game feels too much like a greedy scam, and it's off-putting. My second complaint is a related one; namely that many of the puzzles are far too easy, and some are quite brief - my 4-year-old could have come up with them. In some cases they only contain three words. Especially I f I am paying for a puzzle pack, I don't want to get garbage in exchange. The game is medium-fun, but it should have been sold at $1.99 - for all the content. I am disillusioned and disappointed in the New York Times for this.

The game itself is fantastic. But, while I understand that the ads are optional, it is disgusting and unacceptable that they automatically open other apps, even if it is just the Google Play Store. I'm surprised Google even allows that functionality. This would be a 5 star game without that.

I love your app but hate your ad policy. You allow apps that automatically open the google play store. I understand the need for ads, but you have to draw the line somewhere... Get rid of those ads and ill put it back to 5 stars.

  • It’s been a year and I still play Apr 27, 2018

I have a short attention span for phone games but I just keep coming back to this one. It’s not repetitive; there’s a huge range of topics; and the game doesn’t badger you to make in-app purchases. The use of ads in this game is clever because you always have the option of turning them down, but if you choose to watch it it gives you double the “reward” for completing a puzzle, which then can go towards unlocking the next puzzle pack. If you get stuck on a puzzle, you can get hints by watching short ads, which again, are optional. I showed this game to my parents who now also play it!

A fun twist on word puzzles. No timer, lives, limited moves. Just play as you like when you like, stop and continue whenever. Clean simple design, drag to move tiles, screen scrolls automatically if you need more space. No glitches so far. Ads/purchases are limited & optional, nothing popping up all the time. Cheers, well done!

Pretty nice game so far...subtle, non-distracting sound track that i really love...played in bed without disturbing the night. Puzzles steadily increase in difficulty, without starting off so simple as to be instantly boring!! Bonanza will also suggest/allow Unlock of new puzzle pack during play with consistent solving. These developers have also shown great RESPECT for players in their thoughtful AD use and placement, earning my absolute loyalty!! Addictive & challenging, this is a high quality word game. Discerning Developers who actually seem to consider the player experience, instead of AD revenue. These guys have earned my loyalty! Can’t wait for New Game!!

  • Fun, challenging, and a model for ad-supported games Apr 2, 2019

    By palabrajot
Bonza has a great pick-up-and-play way about it, and I absolutely love its ad delivery model: when you’re stuck in a puzzle, you have the option of watching a video ad to unlock a free hint. You can unlock new puzzle packs with the in-game currency, (earned either by opting in to watch a video ad or by trading actual money for them,) but if you’re a casual player, a free game drops every day. Buy to own might be best, but if you’re going to do a freeplay game, this is a refreshing change from similar games that beat you over the head with sponsored content after every puzzle.

  • Great Game - possible improvements Jul 3, 2018

    By sm122333
I’ve been playing this game for a few months now, and really enjoy it. I do have a few ideas for improvements. 1. Right now when you complete a puzzle the screen quickly changes to a zoomed out view and the request to watch a video or play another daily shuffle pops up. This prevents the player from being able to see the completed puzzle in detail. Sometimes I struggle with the last word and am just trying various combinations. The screen changes so fast I don’t even know what that last word was. 2 It May not be worth the effort, but being able to type in a letter and have all of those letters throughout the screen light up would be helpful and keep the eyes from crossing.

Very addictive game. Only complaint is some of the main game hints (or categories) aren't helpful because it's one letter and then a bunch of dashes. But you can always watch the super long ads to get you started. I also wish there was a paid, no ad version but I don't see that option in the game.

I love this game. It's great but there's a few things that personally would make it better. 1 make it where you can zoom out a little further. 2 let us skip the ads at least 20 seconds in, and if not, dont send me straight to play store then make me wait another 5 seconds to close it please. Otherwise just let me change the colors and backgrounds.

  • the jumbos make it finally hard enough to be fun Sep 2, 2018

I liked this game when it started, but it had some flaws. There were way too many easy puzzles and no way to know if the puzzle you chose was a three word or a twelve word type. Too many puzzles had repetitive subjects as well, and many of them (like ‘breakfast’ or ‘beach’ or ‘periodic table’) share the same answers. So for me, it was boring and rather pointless to play the game for a while. Then they introduced the jumbo puzzles and suddenly it’s fun again. There are lots more pieces to work with and the answers are more interesting. I do wish the packs were less expensive, though.

Cool puzzle game with great potential. Please save the puzzles I create under a new "My Puzzles" section, listing everything I made in the past with statistics like how many people played it, average ratings, etc. It's so much more fun to contribute and if you get feedback and can see your reach/impact (take a hint from how Google Maps did it).

I like the idea. And the shorter puzzles fit fine on the vertical screen but the one i am doing right now i cant even fit on my screen. Very unnecessarily frustrating, since this would be remedied by simply turning my phone horizontal. Except the game won't rotate. Maybe i need to change a setting if so please tell me what to do. Maybe the functionality is simply not there and if that is the case it really needs to be.

I love this game. I’ve been playing for years BUT I can only play when I know it’s ok for my phone to make noise. Even when my phone is set to silent, your advertisements often make noise - and not just soft noise - by the time I can locate the mute icon, it is too late. The damage has already been done. I would think that your advertisers would want us to play the game more so that we will see more ads. If the ads make noise, we play the game less. Please respect our silent settings. I would give this app a 5 star review if not for the inability to set the ads to silent before they play.

Game was clearly designed for you to shell out cash for in game coins or watch endless amount of ads just to progress at a decent pace. Vague mystery clues are frustrating, for example clue for this puzzle is "S--------". Really? Might as well take away the S and let us guess the entire clue before we can even start solving things. Hints are just as vague. For example your first hint is it starts an "H". Majority of ads are a lengthy 30 second. Nothing like sitting through 30 second ads for a pitiful hint. Found myself spending more time watching ads than actually playing game at the layer levels.

  • Good idea but... Sep 23, 2018

    By corked brain
Like so many apps these days the free version is ad supported. Which is fine but when there is a pop up after every puzzle completion it gets annoying. Ok, I’ll bite and click an add to support the dev because the game is actually interesting. Except that I can’t actually get OUT of the ad and have to close the game; the only thing that happens when you press anywhere on the screen is you link to the advertisement. No X to exit? No wait 30 seconds and it’ll go away? Nope. Bad review here and then the app is getting deleted.

I really enjoyed this game, and I’d be happy to pay a flat rate for the game as a whole, but instead they force you to keep paying to unlock new levels at a certain point. Technically you can use coins you earn to unlock new puzzles, but after a certain point you no longer earn enough coins to unlock new levels. I’m not a fan of micro transactions so I’m uninstalling this game, which is a disappointment as it’s a very creative and fun word puzzle game.
