This is very easy to use and will give the people working in conservation a great idea of how the butterfly population is doing, (as long as enough people participate)...

Would like to see a 'Search' field at the 'Set Location' stage as I'm often entering data when I'm at a different place from where the sightings occurred. The default start for the 'Hold + Drag to Move' is the location where I'm entering the data and it's very tedious to have to drag it 73 miles as I have tonight when I've taken a Screenshot of my exact sightings location using the OS Maps App.

A pleasant thing to do in the garden for 15 minutes.
  • Would change 1 thing Aug 1, 2015

The only thing I would change is to have an option to put in the place name first so that I don't have to move the map 100's of miles. Otherwise very easy and glad to take part!

App has gone downhill. Fiddly, repetitive, only a very limited list of our butterflies and i have seen several not on the list. The app is a pain in the rear and keeps taking you back. You cannot record any dates before 1st July and the whole app is generally not good enough. It's not fit fir ourpoae, so i cannot take part in our annual Butterfly Count. I have uninstalles. Waste of time!

Utterly pointless. You have to sell your data soul via Facebook or Google to get logged in or you can't submit reports. You can use email but after requesting password reminder none came. So pointless. And meager offerings on butterflies to report. No large or small skipper. No clouded yellows. No unusual options. No "other" category as in previous years. Whats the point. This is supposed to be reflective of whats being seen everywhere. Not, garden flower bed faves. Very poor.

Couldn't get to move the location symbol from the phone's current location. I use i-record, now that's a decent app. I've uninstalled Big Butterfly Count and will go back to using I-record, I worry about the duplication of recording apps, I'm not convinced they share data effectively.

Rather disappointed in the lack of variety options for you to select. I have seen many orange-tips but haven't been able to log them. Increase the varieties of butterflies that we are able to choose from as we are seeing a bug variety and many aren't even listed on the app.

Tried to do the butterfly count like I have done in previous years. You now have to log in to do it but after you have entered your counts. Then you had to re-enter your counts. What an hassle. Don't they believe you have seen the butterflies. 🤔

The new look app looks absolutely amazing, well done Butterfly Conservation. As someone who has always struggled with butterfly ID I have found the ID extremely beneficial especially as it shows multiple pictures of each butterfly from multiple angles. I love the interactive map and look forward to seeing my sightings on there. Good luck with the Big Count this year.

great idea and really simple app to use. Just easier to type location rather than use "drag icon", it never seems to take you to the exact spot! Other than that "brilliant". I hope my input helps.

what a good idea this is. Easy to submit findings - educational - fun to do and helpful to the butterfly conservationists. i have enjoyed every day and have learned a lot as a consequence.

A good app, easy to use and follow. Wud hv liked more species of butterfly, but it would probably become a little more complicated if there were. But what a great idea to get people into observing nature and wildlife and developing more of an interest in it. And at the same time getting out and about.

Could we have pictures of the underside of the butterflies, as being colour blind and just giving a written description makes it harder to distinguish what kind of butterfly it is with colour blindness... The top pictures supplied are excellent for identification purposes for determining what the species are, but sometimes the wings are folded up and the tops are not visible, this then prevented me from identification at certain times. An excellent app though despite this slight criticism!

I saw more than I expected (7) which was fun. The app would benefit from allowing you to record your confidence level for each sighting as very difficult to be certain with some of them.

sighting input interface is very poor especially if you are in the same place throughout the day, each sighting has to be manually re-entered.

absolutely rubbish! The range of butterflies you can choose from is lacking in the extreme. where are the Fritilary, Purple Hairstreak, Purple Emperor etc etc. Strikes me this app is purely for those who have absolutely no idea of the range butterflies or moth's in the U.K. uninstalled.
