Worked well. Easy to use. Pity that there were no photos of the butterflies/moths with wings closed on the app. Would have made it easier identifying some when they were at a distance.

A pleasant thing to do in the garden for 15 minutes.

The only thing I would change is to have an option to put in the place name first so that I don't have to move the map 100's of miles. Otherwise very easy and glad to take part!

The app is not as user friendly this year as last. It would help if the butterfly listings had pictures of the butterflies, wings opened and closed, so that on the spot identification is possible rather than having to click on the listing for a picture. The typeface is also too light to read easily in strong sunlight and the map is not easy to use.

Tried to do the butterfly count like I have done in previous years. You now have to log in to do it but after you have entered your counts. Then you had to re-enter your counts. What an hassle. Don't they believe you have seen the butterflies. 🤔

Start a count, take a photo and your session isn't saved. Given most butterflies are fast moving an unsure (brown or white) option would be useful

aggravatingly many problems, but just about usable. I think you need to keep the screen on. If the screen locks or you turn it off, not always but often the count just resets and you lose everything. I did Android/Settings/Battery and turned off battery optimisation when it's in the background: still got the problem. The ID guide only has the open winged pictures, not the backs of the wings - you really must have both. You keep being asked to log in - why, when you're logged in on Android? Use Facebook login, because that doesn't oblige you to type in a password, because I certainly cannot remember mine. I had several counts broken by this reset problem. Today I could remember the rough numbers so when I got home I logged on using a browser - my single submitted count of a few days ago is completely absent??? In other words don't use this app: print out the ID guide with butterfly front and back appearance, use a pen, and enter details when you get home.

App has gone downhill. Fiddly, repetitive, only a very limited list of our butterflies and i have seen several not on the list. The app is a pain in the rear and keeps taking you back. You cannot record any dates before 1st July and the whole app is generally not good enough. It's not fit fir ourpoae, so i cannot take part in our annual Butterfly Count. I have uninstalles. Waste of time!

Couldn't get to move the location symbol from the phone's current location. I use i-record, now that's a decent app. I've uninstalled Big Butterfly Count and will go back to using I-record, I worry about the duplication of recording apps, I'm not convinced they share data effectively.

The new look app looks absolutely amazing, well done Butterfly Conservation. As someone who has always struggled with butterfly ID I have found the ID extremely beneficial especially as it shows multiple pictures of each butterfly from multiple angles. I love the interactive map and look forward to seeing my sightings on there. Good luck with the Big Count this year.

great idea and really simple app to use. Just easier to type location rather than use "drag icon", it never seems to take you to the exact spot! Other than that "brilliant". I hope my input helps.

what a good idea this is. Easy to submit findings - educational - fun to do and helpful to the butterfly conservationists. i have enjoyed every day and have learned a lot as a consequence.

This app is useful for documenting the butterflies which have severely declined over the years. It would be nice to document EVERY butterfly and moth of course, but the specimens in the count are nearing endangerment due to habitat loss.

Would like to see a 'Search' field at the 'Set Location' stage as I'm often entering data when I'm at a different place from where the sightings occurred. The default start for the 'Hold + Drag to Move' is the location where I'm entering the data and it's very tedious to have to drag it 73 miles as I have tonight when I've taken a Screenshot of my exact sightings location using the OS Maps App.

A good app, easy to use and follow. Wud hv liked more species of butterfly, but it would probably become a little more complicated if there were. But what a great idea to get people into observing nature and wildlife and developing more of an interest in it. And at the same time getting out and about.

I saw more than I expected (7) which was fun. The app would benefit from allowing you to record your confidence level for each sighting as very difficult to be certain with some of them.

Rather disappointed in the lack of variety options for you to select. I have seen many orange-tips but haven't been able to log them. Increase the varieties of butterflies that we are able to choose from as we are seeing a bug variety and many aren't even listed on the app.

absolutely rubbish! The range of butterflies you can choose from is lacking in the extreme. where are the Fritilary, Purple Hairstreak, Purple Emperor etc etc. Strikes me this app is purely for those who have absolutely no idea of the range butterflies or moth's in the U.K. uninstalled.
