  • Good app with one feature request Oct 29, 2020

    By SacredFig
When you know that is user is an international user, please do not show them programs that are not available to international users. This just becomes frustrating.

They have improved. Switching networks is still a bit fiddly. Previously, This app is inferior to the iPlayer app that I was forced to migrate from. I like the integration with podcasts and music. I am however forced to re-launch the app often as it becomes unresponsive. The buffer is inadequate and there is long delay when switching between mobile data and wifi. I hope it gets fixed soon as I am hooked on BBC world radio. If it doesn't I may have to find an alternative streaming method.
  • Please add the ability to queue individual episodes from different podcasts May 3, 2021

    By manal.21sinha
Really like the app overall and the interface. Just two feature requests: 1. Please add the ability to create your own queue of episodes from different podcasts, rather than automatically create a queue of unplayed episodes of the same podcast. That would be great for situations where you want to queue up multiple episodes for a long journey or something similar 2. For podcasts, map the default actions for the "Previous" and "Next" buttons on a Bluetooth headset or CarPlay to actually skip 20 seconds backwards/forwards, because that is what I actually want to do for a 30-60 min long podcast, instead of start from the very beginning or abruptly start playing whatever's next. Thanks!

I download lots of drama and comedy to listen to when I am in the garden, doing DIY in and around the house. The feature that is really useful is automatically going to next episode. Most recently when I have swiped to indicate that I have listened to an episode. BBC sounds had been storing them and at the end of next episode goes back and plays one I have already listened too. Grrrr really annoying when you are up a ladder trying to sort it out. There are some really awesome dramas, old comedie

Menu is much more cumbersome to navigate, programming menu shows less, and less useful, information than the old app. Altogether this is a clumsy app and definitely not an improvement.
  • Apple watch app and search history Dec 14, 2020

I would love to listen to Annie or Pete while I run without my phone so a watch app would be amazing. I’d also love to download the shows in the US. I miss the fill in search history and the darker theme of the old app.

I'd put all 5, but ever since you removed Alarm clock, I had to switch to another app, so I don't use Sounds any more. Which is real shame, as Sounds is amazing and any other 3rd party app sucks big time. But hey, I need my alarm to start off at 6am with 5 Live and go on till 3pm, which is something you can't do. Life can't be perfect for everyone I guess. :)

An excellent app with a great UI. It does keep crashing the first—and sometimes second and third—time I launch it, though. I eventually get it open, but it’s a pain to have to keep opening it ‘til it works. Would be a five-star review otherwise.

The site is reasonably easy to navigate though I think the categories need some updating as a lot of the content has been on for a long time. The BBC archives are vast and I'm sure there are programmes in there that could do with an airing especially the classic series programmes on radio four. However, don't get rid of the existing content, just add some more. It's a lifeline for insomniacs!

It's pretty good, but the issue I always get is when I cast to a Google home speaker it was connect and play for a second then it stops and I always have to tap the play button again for the playing to continue to cast. The navigation is a nightmare when you are listening to the programme and want to read the associated notes which come with. You can skip back and forward, but not while casting?

Have to keep rebooting my Samsung pad as just show the loading circle and the go to downloads, have uninstalled it, all I was getting was a spinning circle and telling me to go to downloads, if I could give it no stars I would, what a complete waste of my time try to get this to work, I've been trying for nearly a week, uninstalling it then re installing it, reboot my tab but still the same thing. DON'T USE IT. ITS RUBBISH.
  • Registration is a pain Jan 9, 2021

The old version was so much better. This version plays downloads you have already deleted, using mobile networks, despite this option being disabled. Will play a series in the wrong order, replays episodes you have already listened to leaving others unplayed. Displays items in original broadcast order rather than last broadcast making things difficult to find.

Come on - there are lots of constructive comments - act on them and make this worth bothering with. Poor interface, poor information, too much irrelevant clutter. The app is not a disaster but it is not a worthy successor to iplayer. Nothing has improved in a year. Still cluttered, still light on information and no linkage to BBC's own Web pages where the info does exist.

Downloaded, made an account, hit the play button...circle of death. How long do I let it swirl before deciding to delete? I guess we’ll see, but like most people, I have other things to do than babysit what should be a globally accepted and functional app.

Please, please fix the crashing and freezing. I've relied on this app for listening to downloaded dramas while out walking, and it's been great ("Tracks" was the best btw!). But recently it has started crashing and freezing during playback. I was putting up with having to stop and get my phone out of my pocket a couple of times per walk to set it running again. But this week it's doing it every couple of minutes. I've had to give up using it altogether. No more BBC dramas. Please fix it!

What a travesty this app is! Fantastic BBC content, far more programmes than I could ever hope to listen to, if only the app would cooperate! As an enthusiastic listener to R3 and R4 I feel totally frustrated by by BBC Sounds. The basic idea is good, but it's so slow, constantly crashing and freezing. Bring back the radio iPlayer; it was far superior!

Love this app and works perfectly on my Android 10 device. Especially like the ability to bookmark shows to listen again. As an improvement it would be great if this could be expanded by allowing the bookmarking of specific points in a program along with a user note, for example a specific interview or music track. It would help making the sharing of interesting content easier!

Actually a very nice app. Get your fave station in seconds, crystal clear, then plenty (but, critically, not too much) of other ways into your shows, info on upcoming stuff....Well done BBC, your devs have located that elusive mojo of theirs!! A genuinely well thought out, well built and so far well maintained app. Bloody lovely it is ;-)

A great little app. All the output of BBC radio available. I'm a great radio4 fan and allows me to find the things I'd usually miss as my partner is not, and radio drama/comedy is more a solo activity than ensemble. App does sometimes come out of what I'm listening to if paused for too long (work gets in the way sometimes) hence 4 not 5 stars.

The change from the previous app wasn't explained well. Why doesn't BBC use its programmes to exp,ain how important software works. As someone who could never totally understand video recorders some of the new TV apps are a bit of a mystery. On BBC sounds what can I search for? How can I download so L can listen without the internet? ETC.

Great selection of content... blows anything available here in Canada out of the water. Not as intuitive as I'd have hoped but have found everything eventually. Love the selection of podcasts and music. Keeps me connected with the UK. The only reason I didn't give five stars is my Canadian iOS friends are able to download content but the same option isn't available for Android (I still won't go apple)

Not sure the reason for replay (back 30 seconds or back to start) because the app doesn’t allow you to use them.

it has difficulty keeping track of what day, it is & difficulty keeping track of whether I should be able play something I have just missed or not, so not being able to play something from the schedule often does not mean that I cant go play it from the library. It is frustrating when the ends of programmes are sliced off but not great when you get 3 mins of something else dropped in before the next episode, but I guess its better than proper adverts. It is still my radio player of choice.
  • I would give it 5 stars BUT Oct 29, 2020

Its quite temperamental. I have a Samsung a21s and the radio takes in excess of 60 seconds to load and start playing. Whilst waiting you're wondering if its actually working. Also, When finishing listening to podcasts, the radio fails to load should i want to listen to it so I have to refresh my phone for it to start working again!!

Have just updated and after 19 months of frustration with completely janky scrolling, my initial experience is that scrolling issues have finally been given some major attention and that scrolling now seems to be far more reactive than previous (on Android, Samsung, tablet). I'm upping my rating to 3. Still not as good as its antecedent, BBC iPlayer.
