  • Great game, fix the bug Jun 18, 2020

    By Mattiiice
I thoroughly enjoy playing backgammon, but this game has a big problem with the dice. I’ve had Backgammon: Lord of the Boards for a long time now, and I have been patient with how the dice have been rolling against me, up until now. When my piece is left open strategically or simply taking a risk, 85% of the time the opposing dice roll exactly what numbers are needed to send my piece to jail. I would not be complaining if it were numbers 1-6, but having exactly what you need for numbers 7-12 on a consistent basis is ridiculous. On top of all that, the times I am sent to jail, 75% of the time I roll the numbers that are being blocked. These percentages are not realistic, and not to jump to speculation but the game feels rigged. I do not want to delete this app because the set up is great, the challenges are great and I give this app an 8/10. There is no other way to put it except that it is setting people up to fail. Even the odds. Please and thank you.

  • Fun Game! Sep 3, 2020

Every game has different results. It does seem like though the dice is not totally random, and I get frustrated when the opponent rolls everything they need for a win, but then it goes both ways, and that is what makes it fun. The developers are super active in creating new challenges on a daily basis. (Yes, I play this game way too much) but it’s so addictive! I’m really enjoying the games within the game, like scoring packets for the Album, to win extra coins. I’ll be bummed when that series ends in thirty something days. But I look forward to what the developers will create after that ends! One last thing, I did invite two people to join Lord of the Board, but I never got my bonus coins. Other than that, your doing great! Thanks for a fun and challenging experience. Update: idk, the developers asked me to contact them regarding my invited friends and not getting my extra coins. I already had contacted them before writing the initial review and they said those friends had already been participating in the game, so whatever. But still, it’s an awesome app! The developers are super engaged in switching up your experience on a daily basis! I also wanted to mention the graphics, elite! Also, they are very creative in keeping you engaged in the game and challenges. Keep playing, you’ll see what I mean. Can hardly wait for the next turn of events!

  • Do not buy coins here! Jul 20, 2020

    By Kittyluvsmooshi
Think twice before you purchase coins on this site. After years of just ignoring the SUPER SPIN, I decided to give it a try. A huge mistake! The lowest amount on the wheel was 470,000 coins with a maximum of 3 million for 99 cents. Pretty tempting, right? Well, once I paid, rather than letting me spin the wheel, they just added 90,000 coins to my account. 90,000? Why? So I sent an email, the response was the “free Mega Bonus” randomly lands on a slot. Keep spinning and good luck!!!! In other words, the person did not even read my post. So, I took a screen shot of the wheel and sent it with more explanations. They then added another 10,000 coins. Again, I sent another screen shot of the wheel with more explanations. I added I did not understand why the person was ignoring the problem and demanded that they either refund me the .99 cents or let me spin the wheel to collect what is rightfully mine. At the same time, I contacted the app which I used to pay for the wheel spin and asked for a refund. This morning, again another 500,000 coins were added to my account rather than letting me spin the wheel. I am totally exhausted dealing with this game site. Never again will I purchase coins from them. It is not worth the hassle!

  • This app is perfect... Aug 11, 2020

By whatever nickname needs to be here
... if you want to understand how to thoroughly erode customer trust. Backgammon with strangers is inherently high in variance. In every free space, and in every free moment, this app asks you to spend money on the coins used to play. The way the game is set up, when you lose, you lose 100% of your stakes, but when you win, you only win 85% of the pot. That doesn’t seem so bad, reading it, until you break it down. To essentially break even, you have to win 3 games for every 2 you lose. Which means you can’t gain any ground unless you are winning considerably more than you lose. But as mentioned, there’s a lot of variance built into the game already. So, when you lose a game in an app that that captures every moment to pry a purchase out of you, it’s not much of a leap in logic to question if you’re in fact playing real people, or playing bots designed to regularly beat you in somewhat believable fashion. There’s no way for the user to know what’s going on, and the developers have made it abundantly clear that the only thing that matters is your in-app purchases. The app is fun, mostly because backgammon is fun. The app is good for playing with friends remotely. The app is poor for playing against strangers.

I enjoy the app, it’s very easy to find a game. It’s easy to get frustrated with dice, but that happens in any game, I’ve measured a few times and results appear like they may be random. But I don’t understand why the developers say the rake isn’t 15%. My coin total was 603,987 before my last game, won a $2500 game and total is 605,737. That the rake is $750 is just math. And they don’t take more than your bet if you lose, so the $750 is on the total $5000 bet which is 15% exactly (not something much less than 15%, as your developer said in response to the last reviewer. Why not just be honest about this? It’s fine, it’s what the game costs, if I don’t like it then I go elsewhere. If you don’t want it to be 15%, then fix it. But when you lie about this, it makes me wonder, maybe I should do more tests in the actual randomness of the dice. But whether I do or not, your response now makes me wonder if the game is fair. And I don’t know why you’d want your customer base wondering that.

If you want to play REAL backgammon, hop on PlayOk or another reputable site. This app is a complete money-grabbing sham, and for them to say otherwise is even worse. I honestly don’t know where to begin. Their “online standard” 15% minimum rake is blasphemy. Maybe if one could cash in the coins for real money, that would make sense; similar to a casino poker room. But not only are you buying coins that have zero monetary value, they skim off your winnings, making it virtually impossible to get ahead in coins. And that is even with a >50% win rate! The dice algorithm is absolutely cooked. If you’re miles ahead, prepare to see double after double after double. If you’re on the bar looking at 3 open spaces, you can almost forget about getting in. Then (you guessed it!) doubles to block you in. The game plays impossibly “lucky”. I can’t count how many times I’ve opened the game with a 5-1 or 6-2, get hit immediately, and don’t get off the bar until after the opponent has eaten 4 blots. The odds of that happening once are less than 0.1%, so the fact it’s happened on multiple occasions on this app tells you everything you need to know. Not to mention I have never had that happen in my favor. You are a fool if you give these crooks your hard earned money. If you are new to backgammon, stay far away because this is NOT how the game is played. I have played my last game on this app, and I hope many of you will be soon to follow.

Its so frustrating because you developed an incredible game but the non-random rolls are just way way too frustrating to play. Look below at the reviews and you cannot see that many reviews and at least say we have an issue. As you say backgammon is about the luck of the dice but when you take that out of the game it just isn't fun at all. I fully appreciate you have to make money but you are doing the opposite. Let me know if you change this and I will be back but its too fixed so no fun

I Can't believe when your opponent hit you and you are shaking double after double to get back on the board and can't use them because your opponents in the way. You finally get on the board and you never shake another double. I shook 5 doubles I could not use! Its so bad!

  • Great potential, Fixed Dice Sep 5, 2020

    By Gbscoop
Game is fun and would be a great product if the dice were not fixed. There will be a reply from the devs saying they assure the dice are not fixed. To that I question them, when starting off the game each player rolls one die to see who goes first. Sometime there is doubles and you have to roll again, sometimes there is doubles again, but never has there been doubles three times in a row (to determine who start the game). However, in game play I have played against players countless times (when they are way behind, or I am way behind) rolling doubles 3 times or more, to get out of a sure gammon or backgammon situation is the norm not the exception. If you play too aggressive, the opponents dice roll is sure to send you back, too conservative your opponents dice roll is sure to box you in, and don’t even think of doubling, as impossible rolls from your opponent are sure to happen the rest of the game. Devs, use the data you have (see above) read your reviews and listen to your customers. You have a good product, but to have a great product you need to put yourselves in the shoes of the customers and solve their problem with your product, that problem is loaded dice. Your canned replies causes and lack of action only frustrate your customers and push them to select other backgammon games to play.

  • Horrible Doubles and knocking players odds!! Jul 6, 2020

    By dtlrski
I am a backgammon enthusiast, and this is one of the better backgammon apps I’ve played. But, it never fails as soon as I get in a ring tournament or a game costing $1500 or more, I’m consistently getting out rolled on doubles on a 7:1 ratio. Every time I leave a chip open I’m hit every time, I’ve played multiple games where my opponent has 3-6 open chips for multiple turns and I can’t roll anything to hit them. My other complaint is also in ring tournaments, I am in the lead taking pieces of the board in my last 3 $1500 Fifth Ave ring tournament and my opponent rolls 2 double 6s and I start rolling 1s and 2s for multiple turns. If these issues happened once and a while I would be fine, but it has now happened to me in my last 12 ring tournaments. Please fix this bug.

  • Totally Rigged Jun 7, 2018

    By Fraleah
I read both good and bard reviews. My opinion, this game is totally rigged. You have winning streaks and losing streaks. I play Rookie most of the time and when I go back into the game Rookie is the first panel. Pay close attention..if you have over $100k in coins you go in and guess what... the $100k is the first panel and the same ‘white’ color table. Once you hit that, you can’t back out. Nine times out of 10, you lose all your pot. If your opponent wants to double and you don’t you lose $100k, bull*@#! Then you are up against a bot that just seems to get the perfect roll to take you off or block you so you can’t move. NEVER..NEVER pay to play, you’ll lose.

...or maybe it just seems like I never go first, or rarely, but then maybe my luck on this issue will change. A million years ago I wrote a program for unpredictability and randomness ....and it is extremely easy to do. There are 36 possibilities and it is amazing how often the same numeric positions are created within the game, and actually how often they can be rolled. I think it a good game set up(wish we could play the opposite direction sometimes) but the competition is strong. Enjoyable... maybe too enjoyable

I’ve run into so many backgammon games that seem truly rigged to make you run out of points and have to buy more. One game seemed rigged to let a certain nationality win and was so obvious that it was ridiculous! I’d start to get an advantage and suddenly the opponent would get exactly the rolls needed, and my rolls would play right in to their needs too. I’ve been playing this game for a few weeks and I’ve won and lost, but nothing seems weighted for either opponent. Nothing falls into one or the other’s exact needs. I hope it stays this way.

I seem to lose an awful lot, much more than I do on a real game. I think experience component of the game may benefit my opponent, as if I were playing a computer and not a real person. But in the end it doesn’t matter. The house relies on players buying gold and if they didn’t lose it and buy more the house couldn’t support their service. It’s colorful and well thought out. A nice way to pass idle time. I would like to win more and not see me winning and then have the opponent throw multiple doubles and pull later lucky rolls out of the game but it’s not live and doesn’t resemble live in that sense. That said, I enjoy a couple fast games when I can.

The best thing about this app is the graphics. I learned after playing for so long that half the time you’re playing a bot... which can be infuriating... there are times you’ll go through a losing streak that makes you want to toss your phone I’ve complained many times... then there are times you just can’t lose... which infuriates the real players... I never play higher than 100 game starter level... I sometimes wish there was an alternative backgammon game to play. But alas I’m stuck with this game...

This is the best backgammon app I’ve used. My biggest complaint is that an opponent can resign early to avoid being gammoned or backgammoned. The rules should be simple: If you resign with checker in opponent’s home it counts as backgammon. It you resign before removing a checker it counts as gammon. There is loophole to current resign algorithm that is being exploited and it needs to be patched immediately. Players like me who use high risk, high reward strategies are being robbed. Aesthetically there are too many ads at launch. As far as fairness of dice, the dice seem fairer at lower level games. I’m suspicious of modding with all high competition apps. It’s an industry wide challenge and am not singling this developer out. My main complaint is being able to resign early to avoid gammon. But this is best backgammon app available. EDIT: In reply to developer note which asks what they can do to raise stars: You can fix game to keep people from cheating by resigning early. Lowering stars since you replied to comment without reading it first.

The reason I keep coming back to this game is because of how clean it looks and quick it is. However if you’re looking for a fair game forget about it. I’ve gotten friends and family to play this game with me and they all say the same thing... they’ve never played a backgammon app this rigged in their lives. I had to come see the App Store reviews because I knew it wasn’t just me. Like people are saying, if you do everything right and are way ahead, prepare for constant doubles from the other side. Want to get out? If the game doesn’t feel like it prepare to wait. I’ve been playing backgammon since I was a kid and I had a cousin who had never played the game before download the app to play me as an experiment and no joke I could only win like 1 out of every 7 games. He made every single wrong move and left pieces open all over the board and it just wouldn’t let me win. Absolute insanity. Beyond frustrating and even though they say the rolls are completely random it is simply not even close to true. I feel bad leaving a review like this but I feel it aggravates me so much sometimes I want people to stay away if this would aggravate them too. I’m sorry..

  • Canned Developer Response/Still a Fun Game May 20, 2020

    By mmik77
I stick by my premise that the game is fun but the dice rolls are not realistic. I did get a response from the developer on an earlier review, but it was simply a canned one that is used over & over in different forms for other people who have voiced the same constructive criticism I gave. It didn’t bother me, and was actually kind of funny & amusing: “Thank you very much for your response!” (Building rapport) “The dice are not set in any way to be fixed or for a predetermined outcome.” (You are wrong - the game isn’t fixed). “We want all of our players to have a wonderful, unique and enjoyable experience.” (We are just good people and our product is awesome. If you think something is out of sorts, you are simply mistaken.) “We truly wish you all the best and hope you enjoy our product!” (Polite, but a dismissal just the same). I’m not offended or put off, not at all. Like I mentioned previously, the game can be fun to play so it’s not all bad. Finally, to the developers, I absolutely wish you all the best with your wonderful, astonishing and aesthetically pleasing product, and wish you all the absolute best in your future endeavors! God speed, and have a fantastic day!

  • Ugh!! Jan 21, 2020

    By mrv_mrtn
I love to play backgammon but this app is suspicious. I call it that because I can guess how to play my pieces just by the roll of the dice! I spend too much money on coins and can NEVER get ahead of what I have purchased!! Most of the time my opponents roll exactly what they need to trap me or beat me. When your opponent gets lucky like that to start the game DO NOT accept a double because you will end up trapped in the bar until your opponent gets all of their pieces in their side and kicks you out then you’ll have to race to get into yours or you’ll get gammoned and end up losing double!! Just when I am so frustrated to quit the game they’ll “throw me a bone” and give me rolls to trash my opponent and get some of my coins back. Then I go on an “unlucky” streak again. If you like to play mechanically it’s enjoyable, the boards are nice and the pieces move smoothly, but there’s no way the dice are random. No way. Don’t buy coins and just play the least expensive if you don’t care about your “dollar amount”. Ready to find another place to play. 🤷🏽

I love the gameplay, however twice in the last 4 days I have played and after returning to the home screen all of my coins were missing. Big bummer. You get bombarded with pop ups immediately upon opening the app. There are a lot of cheating bots. You have a Facebook messenger that gives bonuses daily but there’s an offer in messenger to stamp your card for each day of play to receive the bonus, it makes you open the app to stamp your card but when you open the game app to stamp your card, there is no card to stamp. There’s a place in the app to watch videos to earn coins but they hardly ever have ads for you to watch, instead a pop up appears for you to invite people to the app. Mostly I’m disappointed with my missing coins and I can’t get ap support because you’re redirected to a page that doesn’t exist and I cannot seem to find a way to speak with the makers of this app. Feedback would be great! Now a new bug 😐!!! I have ace packs that I can’t open ¿?

  • Ads and Loaded Dice Sep 24, 2020

This game has more advertisements than an infomercial. Also, after a few hundred games, I'm really suspecting that the dice rolls are loaded. I find that when I play people that seem like they made a lot of in-game purchases, they just always 'somehow' manage to roll the exact rolls they need to attack my pieces as soon as I leave them open, or get back on the board without having to skip a turn even when I have 5 of the 6 spaces blocked... But I never get that kind of luck, always getting stuck skipping a turn 2-3 times even when they're only blocking 2 of the 6 spots... Do I just ALWAYS get bad dice rolls, or does the game's AI roll the dice better for people who have made on-game purchases? (You can tell who these players are because they'll be like Level 20 with $3M dollars playing in a $400 game, unique dice, etc). The way this app is set up is good, but you have to X out of 20 different ads every time you open it.

I believe the reviews I read. I updated and it got worse.
