  • Disingenuously fronts as a free app, but it works Mar 2, 2020

    By SuzanneK80
Like many others, I find the bait and switch business model to be unacceptable, and I am discontinuing use of the app. When I downloaded the app, there was no mention of it only being free up until you add 40 images, after which point you must pay in 30 days or loose your photos. Who would use the app that wouldn’t eventually reach the 40 photo limit? IF you are willing to pay for the service they provide, I can share that the app works just fine. It’s a relatively easy interface and allows you to track art by child and age. So if you’re looking for this then it will probably work fine for you. I, however, will be moving my photos to another photo app for free (truly free, forever free). It’s a hassle that I’d rather not have to go through, but it’s worth it to avoid being “trapped” into a membership. I strongly suggest that the company make it clear up front that this is a “free limited trial,” and even make people agree to understanding that they will eventually have to pay. Had I seen this notice I would not have started using the app (which is the point of their tactics).

  • Great product - poor service - lost artwork Jun 6, 2019

    By Lizzyneeser
We love our photo book and impressed by creativity of laying out the artwork to capture the sweetness of our son’s first year of life artwork. The major issue is that for our personal experience, artkive did not use the centrally managed profile information to ensure artwork was being sent to the right home. I had changed our home address when I ordered our book, which arrived at the front door of our new home. Not even a week later I was emailed by artkive notifying me they sent the box to my old address. I responded and said it’s the wrong address and the follow on email informed me it was delivered to our old home. The artwork is not at our old home nor is it the responsibility of the new homeowner to keep track of our mail. I have tried, to no avail, to speak with someone about the matter. Artkive will not respond to my emails and I am absolutely gutted that I do not have the choice to dispose of my own child’s artwork rather it was decided for me with no resolution. Of course it comes with risk to entrust someone with such a task however, I had updated my information and the company did not reference my centrally located profile data. I wish you all the best with the service and don’t wish upon anyone else losing all of their baby’s footprint artwork ):

  • Amazing service for parents with more art than space... Jun 19, 2019

    By stonecoldmark
What an amazing concept this is, especially when you have no idea what to do with the crushing amount of artwork kids bring home from school on a seemingly endless basis. Order a box, pack it full with the child’s art and weeks later receive a beautiful bound, hardcover book that looks like something out of a museum gift shop. Now I don’t have to feel guilty throwing the artwork away. It’s displayed nicely and takes up way less space. The people that thought of this must be parents. It’s genius! Wish I would have known about this years ago.

  • Memories with no clutter! May 23, 2019

I have an artist who has amazed us since he first picked up a paint brush. His art has been created with many different mediums including many cut up pieces of papers! I got this app when it was new and was free! I would pay for this app!! We are a military family and have moved a lot. I have a place to save his art without taking up physical space and added clutter. I DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING MEMORY ON MY PHONE TO SAVE PHOTOS. I can even save the “junkier“ little pieces of art. All parents need this app!

  • Non existent customer service. Nov 25, 2020

The ‘3’ star rating is mostly related to the length of time it has taken to get these books completed. I started the process back in May and will hopefully be getting the books in early December. Otherwise, I would say the customer service piece is trying to compensate for this issue and for that I am truly appreciative. At the final book review before they went to press, it looked like this will be a high quality finished product when all said and done. So that is a definite plus. I do anticipate using them again down the road though would appreciate up front being provided a more accurate turnaround time estimate as that was missing from this first experience.

I was using this app for a few years. I don’t recall, but assume I downloaded a free version. However I never expected them to, after uploading years of art photos from my kids, to essentially hold all those memories hostage until I signed up and paid a monthly subscription fee :(. I knew something so convenient was not going to be free forever, but would have expected them to say something like “you have maxed out on your size” to continue please pay $$xx for additional storage, and had given me the option. Instead, without warning my photos are no longer accessible unless I sign up for one of the monthly subscriptions. I regret ever downloading this app. The reality is I will likely sign up for the $36/ annual just to get access to my content, but will not continue to use this app after I get my photos back. I feel like this is just bad business. “Come try our free app so we can hold your treasures hostage until you pay us...”.

  • Horrible change in business model Mar 27, 2019

This was a great photo storage app for artwork but their new “membership” requirement and pricing is ridiculous. If you want to spend a few hundred a year on a single photo book of art then great! Or you can just upload the pics to a Shutterfly album (or any other photo storage app) and make a $30 photo book there. When I emailed their customer service about my complaints I got a super nasty response. Now that I’m here reading the responses to the reviews, I’m seriously shocked!! WHAT KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONDS LIKE THIS?! Artkive should take some of the money they’re making from this price gouging scheme and hire a legit PR person, they must have teenagers sending these responses. I would advise NOT using the this app, I don’t think this company will be around long enough to actually deliver anything.

  • Annual fee??? May 7, 2019

    By I'm Your Huckleberry
When I started using the app it was free and there was no (or at least no obvious) indication that the service would ever cost money. Functionally the app is fantastic but it will cost me $3 a month to keep storing my pictures. That’s $648 over the 18 years my kids are young. Why can’t they just show me advertisements or something and keep the app free? It makes me nervous to keep uploading art as there is no guarantee that the prices won’t go up. I will probably quit and download all my art before it gets unmanageable. I hope there is a way to download all the pics in bulk as there are probably over 100 pieces of art between my 3 kids. Disappointing for sure.

Absolutely loved this app. and have used it for the last year. Received and email stating if I would like to continue and not loose my art, I would need to pay a monthly fee or a annual fee. It’s not free and I had no issues with paying for a book to be created, which is very overpriced. However the overpriced book of art and a fee, not going to happen.. Now I’m in limbo trying to find a new place to store my child’s art but risk loosing all that I saved. What a sham.

YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ART if you don’t pay the ransom. After you store your art for awhile, they lock your account. Then, they make you pay a ransom to get it back. This is the truth and they don’t tell you this. One day, you’re just locked out. It wasn’t always like this. You used to be able to store pictures for free, and then just buy the products you wanted (which are NOT cheap, but they are nice). Then they got GREEDY. So I paid the ransom and took my pictures off and deleted my account. Disappointing.

  • Crazy helpful, don’t listen to the bad comments. 😁😁😁😁 Jan 29, 2019

I have five kids and they are all ten for all these years I’ve had to stuff my children’s artwork under their beds and then slowly photograph it by myself, then my friend told me about this and I was thinking it was just a scam and then I checked the app out and it worked and was a life savor. It was expensive but totally worth it.

  • Thank You! May 31, 2019

    By Hansfam
Wow! Artkive exceeded my expectations! The clarity, color and capturing the true artwork was beautiful. My son’s artwork is precious to me and it was hard to give up the hard copy, but seeing the final product has relieved some of that. I had over four bins of artwork. Yep, one of those moms. Obviously, I wasn’t looking at the artwork being in bins, but now, anytime I want on my phone, t.v. with thumb drive or post on social media. I could have done myself, but never would it turn out as beautiful as this, nor would it have been done. Customer service was awesome. Not only did they respond in a timely manner, it was personalized and clear. Thanks, Artkive!

  • Brilliant but waiting for originals Jun 22, 2019

    By Ayers Rock 1
The concept is brilliant! We are very happy with the photo book and everyone who has seen it wants information about Artkive. They were super easy to communicate with early on. They even fixed something they forgot to add to the book. After I received the book , I have repeatedly emailed them to inform the team that I had not received originals. However, after reading some reviews I checked my spam folder and they have been replying to my emails . They even sent a tracking no and I hop to receive the originals soon. I would give them5 stars and recommend them.

I found this app in a magazine which stated it was free. When I downloaded it there was no notice that eventually you would be asked to sign up for a membership or you would no longer have access to the photos already uploaded. I wanted an organized place to store my kids artwork over the years for free! Now I cannot login to my account and I’m being told I have to choose a membership and pay. How do I get my already stored photos back?!
