So totally worth it. Found the website and thought it was by far the easiest way to learn new knots, and was thrilled to find out that there's also an app that I can use offline on my phone! The design of the app isn't super polished or perfect, but it gets the job done.

  • Best $5 I’ve ever spent on an app Jul 31, 2018

Buy this App. We have a sport fishing boat in Alaska - which we use continuously for 3 - 5 day trips, 20 to 60 miles out of town/on the ocean. Our need to tie and splice various lines is non stop. This fantastic app has made it easy for any of us on the boat to become expert at just the right knot for any occasion. Brilliant in its simplicity and presentation (and no nonsense explanations and comparisons).

Each description should also describe risk of loosening and ease of and requirements of undoing. It would also be helpful if knots coult be found by purpose and if descriptions were searchable. I know I want to join two different size ropes/cords/lines but I dont know the name of a knot for that purpose. The app has favourites.

This is a comprehensive reference about rope knots. You control the pase of anamation. No physical book can provide an anamation. And, the app can be moved to external SD memory, moving the app to externu is really easy with "App Managger".

The animation is choppy and poorly done. The app is a total waste of a lot of money. I was robbed. This designer is not a teacher. I am not knot pleased.

  • Even better on iPad Dec 19, 2012

    By mikebailey
As a longtime user of the iPhone version I was very glad to see the release of an iPad app. This has the same high quality graphics, animations, and knot information you've come to expect from Grog, but now larger! I especially like the usability and navigation of the app in landscape mode. If you want the best resource for learning to tie knots this is the app for you. I know knot experts that love Animated Knots by Grog, but it's especially invaluable for someone like me who does not find themselves dealing with knots often enough to memorize the various ones and how to utilize them, let alone tie them! This app comes to the rescue each time!

Ok the app it's self is a five star! but after a broken phone forced me to reload my app's, i was upset to find out it was going to cost me to download the app again, so i fired off an e-mail to Grog,he called my back within 30 minutes. and explained that something must have gone wrong, and that he would look into it. (yeah right i said to my self) later that day i had an e-mail returned that explained that he had found the 7year old account and explained that all i needed to do was log in to google play under that old account and the problem was solved. so of the best customer serviced backing up this great app, Thank you for your help Grog (Alan Grogono)!

Great app...but no bowline with a Yosemite finish in the climbing section? Better yet, Alan Lee's locked Yosemite finish?

Only issue is that for surgical knots, you can flip the animation but they are not labelled right-handed/left handed, so as a default learners see the left handed version and look retarded in the OR not understanding why they have to put the needle driver in their left hand to do the knot, vs keeping it in their right hand as the method was designed for. left handed people will like this set-up though. Would like to see some netting knots too if you find some good ones.

I have a lot of similar apps, this one's the best. I have used this app to help train CERT and SAR volunteers more than the actual course material. It's more complete and easier for most of they see it rather than visualize with static images.

I've used the site quite a bit over the years teaching scouts basic knots. I was delighted to find that there's now an app. I would love to see the app get a Technical section like the website to describe rope terminology and rope types. I looked all through the apps and didn't find these rope basics.

  • Good App, Must Pay For Each Platform! May 30, 2017

    By Bojamp
The knot app itself is good. Just a heads up, you must pay for each platform. So, if you happen to buy it while on your iPad, and then want to load it on your iPhone, no good. I thought I must be doing something wrong, since I had never run into that before, so I contacted the company. They confirmed that, yes, you must pay for each platform separately. My problem is that they don't mention that anywhere in the app description. It's certainly not the norm. Again, good app, except now I'm stuck with it on my iPad, when I really wanted it on my phone. Oh well. Consider yourself warned.

  • Ok, but Nov 21, 2013

I found this app because I was making paracord bracelets so I got it thinking it had decorative knots. It's a ok app but it really doesn't have that many knots, not 5$ worth. There's only about 15 decorative knots. Sorry guess it is ok, just not what I needed. I have no problem paying for good apps. There are just to few knots for 5$. Should cost 2 or 3$' tops.
