  • Uncurated news! Jun 21, 2016

    By Arizwa
For years I used LinkedIn's Pulse news app—but when they switched to a curated news-feed, I went looking for another option. Anews offers the most similar model—you can select which news sources you want to see, and in what order, and then scroll through the headlines from each source from side to side. I'm very happy with this app and that there is at least one app left that lets you select the stories you want to read, even sort-of.

For any Pulse users upset about the LinkedIn debacle, this is really close to being as good as the original news aggregator. The news feeds are laid out in rows for that streamlined review, and there is a nice page-over swipe effect when moving through articles in the rows, but there are some bugs here. For example, MacWorld articles must be entered as an RSS feed, and RSS feeds do not have seem to have thumbnail images associated, so I can't quickly spot my favorite pieces like "The Macalope." Also, for some reason the RSS feeds start duplicating the articles in the row of previews. An option to open articles with Safari would also be nice (with the option to go back to pulse for ios9 users). Furthermore, I would prefer if they made the article thumbnails slightly smaller to allow more than two article thumbnails on each row before you must scroll to the right. I do like the more Flipboard-esque approach of swiping over to the next set of articles in a row. It is a cleaner approach in my opinion. Really nice work here and I hope you continue to develop this app to be a full replacement for the many disgruntled Pulse users who are looking for that experience elsewhere.

  • Thank you ANews! Jan 11, 2016

I stumbled upon your news app while reading reviews of another news app. Like many other faithful Pulse app users, I was kicked out of my app the other day (with NO warning!) and hopelessly lost. I tried many different apps and was extremely unhappy... Then I stumbled upon yours... Thank you!! It's very close (but not the same) as what I was used to previously. I just wish there was a way to shut off the categories you assign to the feeds. I'm not viewing entire categories, I hand picked the feeds I view by name... Seeing your categorization of them is distracting... If rather see the feed name there instead... Fix that and you get 5 stars. Love the app!

  • Not quite a Pulse substitute (but getting there) Jan 26, 2016

    By pmindemann
I downloaded Anews like so many others after Pulse was bought by LinkedIn and that app was ruined. Anews is virtually the only reader to allow scrollable rows of news feeds, which is the best thing about it. Unfortunately, it's plagued by a few flaws... • You only get two stories per row, whereas Pulse had 5 or 6. We're not blind, Anews. You can make the text smaller. • The rows are too tall, limiting how many rows can be seen at a time (again, we're not blind--and I want to be able to scan more at a time). • There's limited ability to add feeds--many (like those from Gawker) don't show up right, with duplicate entries and old data. • Along with the above, custom feeds all get lumped into a single "RSS" folder--you can't move feeds into the folders in which they belong (I can't move Jalopnik into Autos, for instance). I really wanted to like Anews, but it has too many issues to be a true Pulse at this stage. I'll keep it installed and hope for updates. Until then, I'll get by with Feedly (unfortunately).

Very nice news agregator with Pulse like layout. Unfortunately I cannot see the RSS feeds I added. Please fix this bug. thank you UPDATE - gave it a try again and disappointed even more. Injections of ads in between the feeds is a major turn off. Delete delete delete

  • Thanks for the Russian ads...not. Jan 20, 2017

The Devs have chosen to insert ads to "sell" stuff. Not sure what 'cause the ads are in Russian. All support links are now in Russian as well. All the "related" app links are for Russian apps. Boy oh boy, that makes me feel super duper secure! Data mine much? Oh well, another potential Pluse replacement bites the dust. Delete.

"In this version we've fixed some minor bugs" You mean you're now putting ads in. Russian ads. LinkedIn disenfranchised every Pulse user it had, and now you're about to do the same. Advice: Fix it very fast.

  • Almost replaces Pulse Feb 7, 2016

    By Owenandva
First off, if you are a former Pulse user this is the closest replacement. Second if you are a former Pulse user alienated by LinkdIn's butchering of Pulse take the time to go give the new Pulse app the negative feedback it deserves. I've made it my mission to regularly rate the new Pulse app with a 1 star review each time they update it just to steer people to better apps like this one.

As a former Pulse News App user I was looking for a new feed reader and came across this app. It works great and while I was disappointed that Linkiden killed the Pulse App I am now thankful as this is a better app.

  • Crashes and reloads too much Sep 29, 2016

    By seadog364
I enjoy this app almost as much as the old Pulse app that LinkedIn ruined. The problem is that it crashes, freezes or continuously reloads an article when you are reading it. The ability to draw news from sources and to have them categorized is very appealing, it just needs to be more stabile. I still use it often.

  • God replacement for Pulse Feb 22, 2016

    By BitBucketBob
I picked this app to replace (the once good) Pulse new reader. Pile was ruined by LinkedIn takeover. This app could be a bit better if it included some missing tech news sites as well as ability to switch to full hamlet site view without the need to scold down to hit the article link. It gets to be annoying to have to scroll down.

Like many here, I was a former Pulse app user...it was a well designed, user friendly app until LinkedIn ruined it. A works well, it's easy to negotiate...it would benefit from a wider net of sources. Film School Rejects?

  • Good content slow to update Dec 11, 2016

    By Mark16q
Latest updated killed it. My old feeds only work on occasion and nothing I add stays next time I use the program. Hope they fix it. The overall feel and look is good, but the articles renew slowly and gets frustrating trying to see what is new. Needs a way to refresh all feeds more quickly.
