When it works great.... but after my 6th ride it stopped displaying my ticket which is horrifying when the conductors come down the aisle looking for your ticket and the only proof you have is the failed app lmao. They could look to up so it wasnt a complete disaster. It also refuses to look up past trip info, it just loads forever and never displays. And why the hell is the amtrak rewards points a separate thing from the app? Why not integrate?

It would appear that the Amtrak user is now required to use the Chrome browser in order to use the Amtrak app. At least that's what I encountered when I tried to sign in. This doesn't sit well with me. Apparently one more bit of my privacy has now been sold out.

  • Amtrack and track allocation Feb 28, 2020

    By MamByak
I board train from San Jose to Hayward. San Jose station has so many tracks I think 10. I have two issues 1. information about track allocation is done last minute causing panic for part minutes travelers. For example for 4:17 train track allocation happens at 4pm 2. There is one single 15 “ monitor in one place inside the station which says which track the train is allotted. Please learn from Caltrain so many boards, lcd screens per track information is up to date. I missed a train because the track was changed last minute. Please forward to the right folks. I love this train cleanliness, train timings, locations but... but information desolation is poor.

This is strictly for the app, Superliner and Viewliner bedroom differences. I signed up with my full name online and then went into the app and the format of my name was wrong. Tried to change the format but I got a message that I had to call to do that. When I called, Amtrak was closed! Called the next day and the CS agent was gracious enough to help me work it out. The difference between the to rooms is primarily dimensions, however no WiFi on the cross country train (which is what we want to do) and you can’t lock your bedroom if you leave your room (kind of a deal breaker for us in this day and time). You can lock the door when you’re in your room thank God!

  • Horrible Experience! Sep 26, 2020

    By blazersgurl2017
First off the train is not practicing social distancing rules there are multiple riders who are placed directly next to others who are not boarding together, there is a notice on the Amtrak website that there will be one passenger to each row, that also is not accurate or being unforced. Also there is mold in the last cart that sits 12 people. I am sending an email with pictures of that issue as well. And it’s not just a few spots of mold I mean the whole upper fixtures where each personal seats lights are have mold on them. I have videos of that as well. When notifying an employee on board they said “oh yeah that could be black mold” but they still decided to sit my 3 year old son directly underneath it! I asked many times if I could move and they stated “due to social distancing I could not, which was not an issue last month when I rode Amtrak trains. I was allowed to move seats due to my own personal safety concerns.

Overall amtrak experience has declined immensely over the past few years. Unreliable, not customer oriented. Food and bev unavailable for more than half of my 24 hrs trip and was only aloud to exit the train for fresh air once for under 1 minute, was told to wait untill the next stop at EVERY STOP. I will absolutely never be traveling with amtrak ever again after this experience. Since the pandemic it seems customer service has become that of a dog kennel. And there is no way to track your train

  • This App Needs to Be Fixed! Oct 5, 2020

    By Btjigga
Amtrak is now requiring customers (including those who purchase monthly passes) to “confirm” each trip in advance - or risk being denied service. The problem with the app is it only allows customers to confirm trips from two stations. So if you have a monthly pass from Philadelphia to Downingtown, Pa (and therefore are entitled to travel anywhere in between, eg, Ardmore, Paoli, Exton) the app doesn’t let you choose those destinations for confirming a trip. You run the risk of being kicked off the train because the app won’t let you confirm a trip to one of those inlying stations! You might say, “just confirm the trip from Phila to Downingtown and get off where you want”. Well, if the train doesn’t stop in Downingtown (not all do), you can’t! In sum, the app currently is defective. It needs to be fixed so that stations/ destinations can be toggled when confirming trips.

We travel on Amtrak twice a week and find the app to be inconsistent. It often freezes, errors out or you get an app update when you’re ready to check out. It doesn’t store payment information so it needs to be entered every time. Another feature is during the course of buying the ticket the price can change- requiring your to start the transaction all over and pay upward of $30-50 more for the train you were buying. You can’t use your rewards in the app or any discount coupons or credits. If you get an electronic ticket when they scan your ticket on the train they’re going to tell you to change your brightness settings on your phone which automatically adapt to the ambient light in the room. All in all, easier to buy a ticket at the station and print it out.

  • Great app—Easy to use Mar 13, 2020

I have used this app in 2020 on both the iPhone 10 & iPhone 11. Good loading speeds, easy to use, easy to book, easy to find status of trains... I needed to change train time one time, and that was straightforward on app. It would be such a pain to print tickets everytime, and to have to find out train status by calling, so I appreciate good quality app. Makes traveling by train easy and smooth sailing.

The app works very well with the basics - purchasing tickets and viewing arrival and departure status. I miss the travel info that used to be - like historical info about the destinations. But clearly, the most important purpose of this app is to schedule travel, buy tickets, and have a virtual ticket on the phone. It works very well for these purposes.

I’m sitting here waiting for the train. I was supposed to get on the train at 12:22 am. There was a freight train derailed earlier today! My train won’t get here until 6:30 am! That’s six hours that I’m going to be in this little town, in an unmanned station. Thanks to this app I can keep track of when my train will be here. I’m getting text messages with updates. That’s very nice! I’m so glad I got this app!

  • Apple Pay, please! Jan 16, 2020

    By Brobdignagian
The Amtrak app is clunky, and sometimes doesn’t work, but it usually gets the job done. Booking would be faster, more convenient, and offer better card security if Apple Pay were built in to this app. Usability wise, I find I sometimes miss the opportunity to choose one way or round trip, and end up buying one way rather than exiting and starting over. If the round trip option were more visibly obvious at the beginning, that would help. If there were an option to add a return trip at the end of booking a one-way, that would help.

I’ve been riding trains around the North East for over 20 years, often skipping Amtrak service because of the price. Sometimes it’s cheaper to fly than to take the train. During COVID-19 the service continued with gapped sitting, touchless transaction payments in the food cart often no real healthy food options and a more limited number of eats. The app has been easy to use and you can even modify the reservation yourself in an easy to understand user interface within the app. The company should make stronger efforts of cleaning between routes. Still work to be done.

  • App is Ok! Sep 15, 2020

App is ok, It constantly logs me out so I have to log in. Ease of use is definitely better but the app is still slow at times and logs you out randomly which is annoying because then you have to exit everything and start all over to log back in. I’m happy you fixed adding the dog section which wasn’t there before for some reason...? The points would be better too if you added somehow the Amtrak guest rewards option to pay, shop, etc.

The app is a pretty good app. However with all apps there could always be improvements. Only thing I dislike about this app is, they should have the disability section in the more option button. You have the click that go to another website and make your reservation which is not necessary this can be done with some changes. Overall, the app is great and user-friendly. I would have given it a five-star but nobody is perfect.

It seems every time the Amtrak site is updated, it is actually a beta version. The buttons glitch all the time....you need to select “buy”and “done” seven or eight times before it finally takes. There is no indication of something missing or incorrect that keeps selections from being accepted. The actual layout of the site is poor also....very small side call out buttons for additional info. The old site layout worked fine, all the info and choices were available by scrolling down, selections were accepted first time.(Of course it took months before that version worked correctly, as well)

*Usually* shows my purchased ticket, and if you know the time and train number you can look up train status. That's about it. Station schedule button doesn't work, some other essential buttons such as "done" don't work, text is placed on top of battery indicator on iPhone X, scrolling doesn't work in some screens, and app navigation is confusing at best. App shows barcode for purchased tickets if you manually enter the confirmation number the first time, which is useful, but doesn't use the ticket info to show you anything about your train status and frequently shows incorrect number of rides remaining
