more lessI downloaded this app for my most recent trip to California and I’m so glad I did (I don’t know how I would have survived without it)! The app was great at getting me checked in/boarded, keeping me updated on my flight status and luggage status*, as well as keeping me informed on gate changes (which gave me so much peace of mind for someone who has never flown solo before and hasn’t had much experience with airports) *The one suggestion I do have for the app would be to only send notifications about baggage claim to those people who actually need to pick up their bags. Going to California this didn’t happen to me but coming back, I had a moment of sheer terror because I got a notification saying that I needed to pick up my bag for my connecting flight which would have made me late for the next one. After asking the person at the gate if this was true they looked at my baggage claim tag and told me that my luggage would be transferred and that sometimes everybody on a particular flight get that notification even if it doesn’t apply to them. Eventually, the app updated my bag status to being loaded on the plane as I was boarding but I definitely panicked for a good 10-15 minutes. Other than that one thing, I had nothing but a positive experience using the app

This used to be a good ap. Hasn't worked since a few updates ago. I've done all the updates and tried uninstalling and installing again. All my other apps work fine so there's something wrong with the latest AA updates. UPDATE: For anyone else having the same problem, I was able to resolve the issue by opening the app using my cellular connection. Once open, then it works with WiFi. Very odd that I had to do that, it should work either way. Changed my 1 star rating to 3 star.

more lessThe app is almost always very efficient.... but recently, my seat assignment that I chose in a premium economy as a Platinum Pro an aisle seat 9c when I made the reservation... but I went to check later that week I saw that my seat assignment was changed to a window seat which is not what I chose. Also... when I am in Premium Economy seats or pay for First... it is pathetic that you are not serving beverage service .... and can’t serve a snack or light meal as was our rationale for buying First in the past ... the service and the way we are treated in first.... so obvious that the management is using Covid as an excuse not to give the exceptional service that American has been known for.... other carriers are treating their loyal customers much better... makes you think about your Loyalty to American going forward. Just wanted to let you know how so many of your customers are venting and expressing their disgust with the level of service commensurate with Southwest or Spirit.

I found the app very easy to use honestly. Back in Dec 2021 I took a trip by myself for the first time. I'm 19, never flown before let alone been in an airport and it literally got me through the whole trip really easy. There is a labeled map of the airport with all the numbers, and you can see where your seat is in comparison to the rest of the plane beforehand. The app makes your boarding pass brighter for you when your pulling it up. Not too many buttons to get confused. ☆Very nice~☆

Terrible app
more lessTerrible app, this isn’t very functional compared to the United app. I dropped United last year and I am a frequent flyer and now Platnium pro. The WiFi functionality in the air to stream just doesn’t work well in the app. How you have to switch back and forth multiple times going from ur WiFi settings to the app in order to play a video. U should simply be on the WiFi and then be able to select entertainment and be able to select the video all in the app. The upgrade list isn’t well done and isn’t able to be seen in real time except right before boarding. Interactive maps are terrible. Push notifications for boarding, or modifying push notifications to 15 min before boarding so you can leave the Admirals club and make it to your gate on time. Also it is a pain when ur boarding pass expires when in the air, a big problem when ur flight is delayed. I get better notifications from Kayak about my American Airlines delays and baggage claim then I get out of the American app. It is truly a disappointing app.

Confusing policy
more lessDear Madam/Sir Although I’m enjoying generally flying AA, the use of the Admirals Club and the automatic request for upgrades, this last trip had an unexpected surprise for me. On my way to SF my flight from Pittsurgh to JFK was delayed. Nothing wrong with that. These things happen. But as a result I was the last one to board the JFK to SFO flight and I saw multiple empty seats on both the first and the business class. And although the AA app was showing me having a “requested” upgrade, this upgrade did not materialize. I understand this is s long flight and normally I would not even been placed in the upgrade list. But in that case I was confused as to why although I was in the list and there were empty seats the upgrade did not come through. With best regards P. Benos

The app is great
more lessI read through the reviews and took issue with most of them. People qualify themselves as frequent fliers and then mention that this app is dysfunctional...as an Executive Platinum member (i.e.- I fly), I find this app highly capable. I find it useful in every way that I need it to be. I’m able to book revenue and award tickets, I’m able to select my seats, and when my upgrade processes I’m able to recheck my seat in the new cabin. I’m able to check-in and I find the app to be very useful in receiving flight updates. My company uses concur, and the moment my flight is reserved in concur it shows up in the app. I’m able to understand if my flight may be impacted based on the app-provided “inbound” flight, and I’m able to live-track my baggage in the event that I check bags. I’m not sure what people expect from an app, but in reading the reviews it seems that people are hoping that the app somehow will solve all of their travel nightmares, but I’m afraid those are classic weather, mechanical, and customer service issues.

Great app, except when it keeps logging me out. I am on AA 4 legs a week and it's annoying having to log back in every so many days. Would be nice if a biometric feature is included, instead of having to login with a password every so many days. Logging in wouldn't annoy me, if I could just press my fingerprint instead of typing in my password all the time.

I have used this app for a long time and generally like it very much. But since their last update I have flown twice and haven't been able to retrieve my boarding passes through the app. I have to print paper passes at the airport each time. I can hit 'boarding pass' a million times and nothing happens. (Samsung S20)

I wish I could say I liked this app more. It is generally intuitive and it functions well when it is working... however, it times out and errors out a lot. Even when it sends you to the mobile site, it doesn't seem to work. I don't understand what the deal is. Overall it works when you are checked in and your tickets are ready but needing to reschedule or look up a flight...you better expect issues.

It's okay it could be better. Why does American Airlines make it so difficult to check in through the app and through the website. It is ridiculous that we are forced to call the call center to make sure we are checked in, to top that off in order to talk to someone it is a 1hour to 2 hours waiting on the phone, if they call you back it will be even much later than that. Better off waiting on the phone. What I do like about the app that you can load your boarding pass onto your phone.

i can't navigate quickly in this app. i wanted to update my known traveler number while on the way to the airport. i could not find it. i had to go to the ticket counter for assistance. booking travel with points sucked. updating a credit card sucked. this app is great if you merely want to check in or view point totals, but it sucks for other standard activity.
