I have been with America First from long before it was AFCU and would never think of changing My children and grandchildren are also AFCU member. AFCU’s determination for accuracy, expediency and many Rotherham words I could use to define them. In all my years with AFCU I have never had any kind of banking error, have always received dedicated representatives that are knowledgeable as to the customers unique need. When I hear that someone uses a bank I cringe (why would anyone to that). In using a company for as long as I’ve used AFCU which is over 50 years without any incident is unheard of. So I am very proud to shout I am am AFCU member and wouldn’t have it any other way!! Thanks to all of you at AFCU for all you have done to make me feel I am your most important customer. I am also proud to say that I recommend you to all people I know that are looking for a financial institution. Kudos to you AFCU, you have earned it and more. Warm regards, Chantal Beason

You know, if this app just updated your account settings as listed from its online (web browser) banking source, it would actually be a very useful and near perfect app. My suggestion, America First, is fix this problem before updating the GUI (that’s how the app looks and feels for all you technical novices). I’ve had this app for a while, so I know that it doesn’t update your account as soon as it should, so I haven’t run into overdraft fees in a while. Oh, also, notify your employees that this is a problem, I argued with one of your tellers about how the app doesn’t always update immediately and he kept trying to tell me it was instantaneous, no matter the situation. I think a good majority of these reviews somewhat argue otherwise. I do admit that most purchases show almost instantly, but I’ve found that some stores have a delay on the actual amount, such as most gas stations. Anyway, I know this is a long review, but it’s meant mostly for the software staff, so pay me no mind, other customers. (This information might be helpful to know if you’re going to get the app so you know what to look out for, though.)

I've never been very good with banks and my prior experiences left a sour taste when it came to Mobil banking... but for some reason American First credit union seems to work well with me.... it completely accommodates the needs of someone like my self who knows very little when it comes to iPhones, computers and technology... and even better the few times I've screwed up, calling the friendly people in the customer service department is anything less then marvelous... always friendly, patient, I can feel their smiles jump thru the phone when speaking with me... makes me want to mess up just to call them..... I will always rave the positivity and easy to maneuver on line Mobil application...... along with the card guard services that give me the piece of mind I need to watch over my funds....... There is no reason to ask our security questions for every login. The question at the initial login on a new device is sufficient. When I log into my account I use facial recognition and/or a finger print, or account number and password. After submitting login credentials my device and your server is exchanging IP addresses and hardware addresses. Asking the security question at every login is amateurish. This begs the question, if you treat your virtual front door this way what other processes will I discover that will hurt my trust into your company? Anyways, the industry standard is to ask security questions after the first login on a new device, multiple failed login attempts and to unlock/retrieve an account. Regarding speech access... It's too easy to get stuck into a loop. If this were an emergency what is the fastest way to reach someone at AFCU? Both issues here comes across that AFCU uses a axe instead of a scalpel when it comes to online security and customer service.

I loved this app so much, super easy to transfer money, super user friendly and easy to navigate, and quick to check account balances. Well one day I made all my bill and credit card payments because the app said I had enough money in my account. Well soon to find out the app hadn’t updated my checking account balance and I paid bills and credit cards with money that wasn’t really in there. They charged me over draft fees and sent me a letter in the mail and said i had $75+ worth of fees for over drafting. I wouldn’t have paid my bills and credit cards if I had known my really checking balance but the app doesn’t update it in real time. I saw a couple previous reviews that said the same thing happened to them and I never thought that it would actually happen to me. Now I just log on using safari and use the full online banking instead of the app because that’s real time.

  • Worst Banking App Mar 13, 2018

This app is ridiculously bad. It’s constantly out of sync with my actual bank account, even if I’ve just manually told it to sync. When I click checking to see which purchases have gone through it will only show purchases for that month. So if it’s March 1 in the morning it will be empty or have one pending thing. If a purchase or bill went through on April 30, you can’t see it without going through a few more steps in a completely different area that lumps all transactions for every account you have in one area. Old and paid off accounts from years ago show up with their full balances when I first got the app putting me into a panic. The only good feature is the card guard but that doesn’t work properly because I can’t distinguish between mine or my husbands debit cards. If I lose mine we have to shut them both off?! Other banks have figured this out I don’t know why AFCU can’t.

Mobile deposit; great customer service; easy access to online account data; easy transfer of money from one account to another. With account linking you can see all of your accounts with one login. You have to link them from a computer to see them.

  • Great, but with a few bugs Nov 8, 2018

    By NefiAlejandro
It is incredibly convenient to be able to see balances and transactions anytime from anywhere and compare gains and losses month to month. It also shows where your spending lies in an easy to understand pie chart, including categories such as food and dining, automotive, entertainment, etc. You can deposit checks and make transfers without even leaving the couch. But it also has a few issues. Every couple of weeks, it denies me access to it, saying that my password is no longer acceptable because I’ve changed it (when I haven’t.) my only option, then, is to try to reset my password, which it always tells me is “unavailable.” It usually accepts my same old password a few days later without my doing anything else. I’m finding out that shutting off my phone for a few minutes when that happens helps. I’ve had a few other issues occasionally, but they’re not as bad as this one. It’s a very helpful app, though, overall.

  • AFCU app is credible Mar 4, 2018

    By Whitwer_girl
I like the features of this app. It lets you make transfers easily to other people or into savings. It also shows how much of your money is spent on certain items. I waste too much of my money on food, but it’s part of life and it helps me budget that. The charges on a past review are pending because that’s how long it takes some services to go through.. so that really just sounds like a personal problem. It’s nice that it has those pending charges because you can track how much money will be lost soon. You can also deposit checks electronically when needed. It also seems secure and you have to enter your password pin every time you check your finances. It has been a helpful app and it’s much easier to track money than without it and having a mystery card, or just making frequent trips for bank receipts..

  • Solid app with one big issue Mar 27, 2019

    By trevordmiller
Overall the app is useful. I do wish that the categorization of transactions applied to future transactions though - it is time consuming to re-categorize the same things when they are added incorrectly because the app does not “remember” what you selected the last time. For example, our water and garbage utility bill is entered as “Uncategorized”. I change it to “Utility” and it does have a re-categorization confirmation to ask if I want to update all the other matching transactions which is great, but the next time the same transaction shows up it is “Uncategorized” again and the process repeats. It would save a lot of time if the re-categorization confirmation applied to future matching transactions as well as past ones.

I am disappointed with the bank-like approach America First took to their new premium checking accounts. For an organization that claims to have its members’ trust as a top priority, this kind of sneaky, “rope-everyone-in” strategy is beneath them. I’ve been loyal to this credit union for a long time and have done lots of business with them. In my mind, they have lost trust with this move. I hope they won’t try anything like this again. I gave them 3 stars because I still have some lingering loyalty to the CU and also because the app works well except that it doesn’t let you store the information of people you make transfers to, so you can reuse those details and not have to re-enter them every time.

  • Doesn’t show all pending charges Oct 30, 2017

    By ChelleMass
I like most of the apps available uses. I just don’t like how all pending charges don’t show up. I never have cash on me, because I like to see where my money goes, but a lot of things don’t show up as pending, and you think you have more money, then you really do, and end up going into the negative and being charges a bunch of $25 fees, for each transaction. Then your basically putting money into your own account, for the bank to keep. I wish it did better at keeping track of everything.

  • Not showing account numbers Sep 6, 2018

    By Hawaiian girl :)
I find the app very convenient to use in the past. Recently I find it difficult to pay any credit cards, my husband and I have separate Home Depot and capital one credit cards, so when I go to pay them on the app it no longer shows the last 4 digits of each account. Therefore now I have to mail them so I know which account is getting paid. I don’t know why the app suddenly stopped showing the last 4 digits of each account, now I can’t use the app as often as I once did.

  • Good but definitely some annoyances Feb 2, 2018

    By Ettie17
I love AFCU but sometimes the app aggravates me. Like some have said it takes days for pending charges to show, or for automatic payments to come out so sometimes I spend the money that I think I have then to find I didn’t have it. Other thing is I hate that it only shows monthly transactions in the selected account and you have to actually click on ‘Transactions’ to see previous months. I also wish you could select the dates of transactions you’d like to see, like you can on the website.

  • Fix this issue Apr 13, 2021

    By Ms. GreenEyes
The app for most part is good. What’s annoying is when in the bill pay portion, the dates are off. Previous bill payments are not in chronological order. This has happened a few times over the years. I just uninstalled and reinstalled hoping it would fix the issue but it did not. Pending payments do show on top but then it jumps to October and then after is March, etc. This is ridiculous that I can’t scroll in chronological order to confirm what payments have been made in this month. This is huge for me and would assume it is for others as well. Please fix this and stop this reoccurring issue.

It’s is not at all clearly explained how to make payments on a loan from america first using the app. I don’t use them as my primary provider, and they make it seem like it should be simple but it is not at all. They need to make it clear cut on how to make a payment ON MOBILE so that I don’t have to drive to the bank every single time I need to make a payment or do it over the phone. It’s ridiculous. I don’t know where my account information is on the app or the specifics of what I need to make transfers from one institution to another. So other than checking my loan balance, the app is useless.

This app never works. Half the time I log in and it’s like a week behind on any transactions. The other half it doesn’t open or load anything! Depositing a check is a joke because there’s always an error. Doesn’t matter how much light, background, amount, time of day, position of the moon. I always end up writing “mobile deposit” and then I have to go to a branch anyway and go through all the rigmarole while they get a manager to approve it. It gets 2 stars because SOMETIMES I can make a transfer to my account or another account. Why launch this thing if it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to?

    By WHarrison1
I’ve watched this app go from being an incredibly useful tool to a buggy, outdated waste of time. AFCU is consistently having issues with users being able to log in and even then the app never has proper information. When it says it’s syncing, it actually does nothing. I’ve had full internet and phone service with any other app working just fine, many of which require way more from connection than this app should, and it still would refuse to update because of “slow internet connection” this app needs major fixes, FAST.

It’s obvious you dont care about your app and your customers. The app is very bad at updating and syncing between devices and accurately showing money available specially after pending charges. One day it shows me I have $300 available after pending charges, the next day with plans to spend and not having spent anything it shows $100 is availalble. On my iPad, the charges its now showing me that I have available is $800... that was what I had to spend a week ago. Very terrible on iPads. Also it is obvious it needs mouse and trackpad support because It doesn’t work with those. I can no longer depend on your stupid app to help with in my life. Thanks a lot
