  • Easy to use and easy to bank with! Jan 13, 2021

    By Nautikers
I love their live chat option! It’s probably my favorite thing about banking with Ally. They are good about answering calls, too, but if you’re trying to multitask I find the chat more convenient so that in public places other ppl aren’t over hearing your conversation. It’s really easy to deposit checks and I find their app to be pretty reliable. I can’t even recall the app crashing on me more than once, and I’ve had it for many years! Unlike other bank apps I’ve used that have bn a complete nightmare. I really wish they offered business banking bc I have not bn able to find a bank that is as convenient to bank with and has a banking app as good as Ally’s. Another cool feature is you can see your total balance for all accounts on the home page, and your individual balances are listed next to each account. I know this is something my husband really wished his previous bank app had. Also, you can transfer money from one account to another via the app and the amount is available straight away! Overall, I highly recommend this bank and it’s app.

Easy to use, feels secure, quick response time, and can do just about everything on the app as the desktop. Update** 6/9/21 -- this is still my primary investment platform. After several years and coming from Tradeking to Ally I've been lucky to only have single issue in balance which was corrected quickly. I've called support for simple questions and got quick answers. I appreciate the security and convenient set up!

I’ve been saving online with Ally for a couple years now - using them for a savings account was a no brainer. But I DID use the ole brain to decide who to go with for my first foray into the stock market. I read up on best apps for beginners, pros and cons of several different platforms, etc, and decided to go with Ally - ultimately the fact that I already banked with them gave an extra ‘pro’ to them on the list, in addition to charging NO commission and NO trading fees, which seemed basically unheard of on most other apps I looked into. I’ve had my investment account open for most of this month and it’s been a really easy, unscary process (as Unscary as the stock market can be, anyway.) I used them to buy a handful of specific stocks I decided on after tracking those stocks for a year and researching them, and I plan to use this account to grow my money towards retirement, investing a modest amount each year (not to actively trade, and not to quickly grow funds that I then want to immediately use). So my experience based on that goal has been really great!

Was uneasy about switching to an online bank about 5 years ago. Have been extremely pleased with whole experience. Their app is excellent. The bucket system they offer is amazing and solves the problem of having to open a new account every time I wanted to save for a new goal. Highly recommend.

I’ve been with Ally for several years now. I have a checking and savings account with them. Even when I couldn’t find a bank to finance my car loan, Ally was the only one to trust me with a car loan. I paid off that car with no issues from Ally. I would recommend Ally to everyone that I know. I realized recently how great they are. I had not used my account for over a year, probably a year and a half. So, when I called them the other day, to my surprise, my account was still open and ready to use! Amazing!!! And their live customer support is the best! I’m seeing negative comments here, but why would you use a bank for stock investments? Maybe if you are having issues with Ally’s investment program, try using companies that focus just on that, and come back to Ally once they have mastered that option. It seems that their stock investment program may need some updating, but don’t write them off just because you’ve had issues. Ally is still a great bank option.

I have to update this app almost every time I use it which is irritating. It's reliable for depositing checks though, especially considering how lousy the last app was from a different bank. Deposits are really the only thing I use it for.
  • Really long wait Feb 25, 2021

I made my account for trading months ago. I’m still filing for my account to be fully active. You have to jump through so many hoops to use this app. You have to file for your bank and IF they accept it which took me 6 tries to get accepted because they didn’t like the way my documents looked? Legit got confirmed from the same thing I sent every time because that’s what they kept asking for. Anyway then you have to wait 4 or 5 days for your money to show in account then you have to wait 4 or 5 days for it to “settle” in your account. Then you have your money all set and oh wait you still can’t use it even though you have it. You have to now apply for options which will take 2 to 3 days. I applied for Fidelity and got instant access and the app is cleaner. But my friend is using this app so I’m going to be using this app. But there should be a easier way to just apply for everything out the get go. None of this wait months to do anything crap. Super in convenient. Other then the looooooong wait the bank it ok. The app only has 1/4th of the features so expect to have to use their website every now and then.

  • Outstanding Investment and Banking Platform Mar 14, 2020

    By Danial Jackson
I moved my money over to Ally because I liked the ability to easily create additional checking and savings custodian accounts for my kids all manageable from one place. Each with their own debit cards and free checks! + Found a really neat savings feature called buckets to help save for specific goals. Noticed they offered an integrated investment platform and so I opened one just to test the waters. This ended up being one of my favorite features. My money is transferable from any Ally checking or savings accounts IMMEDIATELY (as in only seconds to process) great if a last minute opportunity develops. The platform has been 100% responsive and reliable executing trades of both stocks and options. They allow you to sell short or buy long, and offer a good research platform. There are API integration features to enable other custom platforms and rich detailed market data. Best of all great 24/7 customer support that is both responsive and provided by real humans. Have an issue and they have your back, it exceeded my expectations by far when compared to other banks and trading platforms. Oh yeah as another big plus 9 times out of 10 they have the highest interest rates available out there on the savings accounts! While none of us are planing to get rich on interest it’s nice to have my cash value savings keep up with inflation, and get that nice compound interest as it sits safely. A+ 5 star from me

I made a decision to try Ally for both a high yield savings and rollover IRA from another online broker I’ve not been pleased with. I initiated the rollover 2 months ago and it was supposed to be a simple ACAT (automatic) transfer. These are supposed to only take a couple weeks. Not hearing from Ally and sensing a potential issue with the transfer after a month, I called to see what was happening. I called multiple times and sat on hold for over an hours time - each time - before I finally reached someone. He put me on hold several times as he went to “check with the ACAT Team” and others, each time coming back and assuring me there were no issues, that sometimes they take up to 4 weeks, and that I should soon see the transfer complete. It’s now been 2 months and nothing, nor any word from Ally. I’ve tried calling back again only to have to sit on hold each time for more than 2 hours until I’ve now given up. As a busy man running a business, I do not have time to sit on the phone for hours and have even had my admin sit on hold for me. At this point I just want the transaction cancelled and move my money elsewhere. Be forewarned, Ally has some attractive components on the surface, but if you need servicing help you’re in for a very, very frustrating and disappointing experience.
  • I can’t access my account due to a problematic registration process. Sep 2, 2020

    By JaredEN2
I downloaded the app, when opened, the app prompts you to open a bank account. I went through the process, a few hours later I get an email saying my accounts are open and can be accessed by logging in. I never made an account, there wasn’t any registration process when I was opening the accounts, and you can’t even register in the app. I couldn’t find any information on signing up and logging in the app’s “Help & FAQ” section, so I had to resort to reddit, they said you have to register on the website. So I head to the “Enroll in Bank and Invest Online Services” page and enter all of the required information, but every time I enter my info It says “We’re sorry. We’re unable to complete your enrollment online.” I guess I’m gonna have to call them, this whole situation is absolutely ridiculous, and I can’t be the only one who has had these issues. Very rough start to what should be a smooth experience. I just downloaded Capital One, went to the website and registered with a checking account without any problems in like 5 minutes, not even exaggerating. All I have to do is add funds to activate the checking account. Way, way more intuitive.

When Ally was just a bank they were great. They did one thing and did it well. Now, their whole platform (app included) are below average. As we speak, I cannot access any of my accounts, including investment, in the middle of a trading day. Speaking of investment, that platform charges fees, has errors in calculations such as gain/loss, won't let you see order status after the day the order is executed, and other issues they are aware of. I'm sorry to say, the heyday of Ally has passed.
  • Slow deposits - zero notifications about late deposits Jan 1, 2021

    By Remote does not work
I opened my account in the hopes of transitioning my main income and pay my bills all through Ally. I have had nothing but problems accessing and moving money, it’s been extremely frustrating. After my immediate deposit of 10,000, I couldn’t take it back out in full for 90 days, without being limited to $500 per day (or $1000 per day, I don’t recall). My most recent example is trying to deposit a check for $500 that was received for Christmas. It was submitted via mobile check deposit at 10am on 12/31, it shows as deposited in my account, but not in my balance. The deposit was apparently placed on an extended hold. I didn’t receive any notifications, no emails, I had to call customer service to get an explanation. I have several other checks to deposit and would have loved to be able to get this one back if I would have known this. The only option when this happens is to use a brick and mortar bank and transfer it. Perhaps I didn’t setup my account correctly or it may be user error on my end, but since I’ve had consistent issues depositing and getting my money back through this bank, I would only consider Ally to be a secondary money moving option.

I had a 5 star review up until now. The process to change a minor account to a normal one is horrendous, the fact that you have a daily limit of $500 until you've had the account open for 3 MONTHS, and then it only gets raised to $1000. Their policy doesn't allow for real people and, in our experience, isn't military friendly. It's a horrible feeling to know you have money and need to use it but can't. It's embarrassing to have $5k in your account and not make a purchase for $600.

HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE! I have tried several times to get a code delivered to my phone number and yet you still won't deliver it! Why is it that you can't deliver it to my email? Why do I have to opt in to receive texts to begin with since I have already opted in before? I've actually had prior issues with them before. Edit: I went ahead and just deleted the app. I'm not dealing with this.
  • Horrible service Jul 13, 2020

    By horrible service work
I’ve had my ally account for 3+ years now as a 20 year old investors , today my tesla stock went up 14% pre market and so I sold for cash , the unsettled funds of the trade I used on another purchase of tesla as it seemed to keep going up. It slowly and I mean slowly started to drop and so I decided to sell my shares at a 200$ loss on my 1500$ gain from earlier. This is where the unsettled funds screwed me over as I was met with rejected contracts to sell and a phone number to call. With absolutely no override for the selling of the stocks any other way. I don’t care if my account is suspended for 90 days as I can just switch brokers and so this seemed so dumb for the investor to only have the option to call for the brokerage to sell my shares. This comes hand in hand with the horrible response times of their customer service and I have been on the phone waiting for 75 minutes as of right now and 45 this morning, all while tesla stock goes down nearly 200$, provide an option for stock sellers to sell and have their accounts reprimanded I’d rather not be able to buy any stocks for 90 days than lose my money. I’ve been waiting forever and continuing to watch as my 1500 gain is now -350. Use a different broker.

Dont be fooled by other reviews, Ally will screw you any chance they get. I deposited a check from a very large school corporation. They refused to deposit it in a timely manner by saying they have “inside knowledge” the check might not be paid. I messaged into a rep and she essentially accused the school district of being bad check writers (which is absolutely and unequivocally false). This is slander and I told her that. I forwarded all of this to the school district and they've sent it to their District Attorney for further action. Bottom line? DO NOT TRUST THIS BANK WITH YOUR MONEY! They will lie to keep your money for longer. Why you ask? Because the longer they hold onto it, the more they can use it and make money off it, before releasing it to you. In the meantime they have NO PROBLEM slandering huge organizations. I wouldn't trust them with anything beyond direct deposit. Anyone who trusts Ally is a fool. Find a better bank. Ally is just out for themselves. And I hope they get sued by the school district for slander. If there were ever a class action against these thieves I’d be the first in line to sign up. I’d give them -0000 stars if I could. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

    By Jgunter2011
Most mobile banking apps have limited services available that are limited to traditional “online banking” access that require logging in from a PC/Laptop but not Ally’s Mobile App! This app has all features you would need for your banking needs such as order checks, card controls, bill pay, Zelle, Mobile check deposit, transfer money internally & externally to your linked accounts, add memos to transactions, chat real time with a banking associate and even open new accounts! I love Ally for their customer service, user friendly services and their great products! Also I can not forget to add that their app is reliable, dependable and consistent- it never goes down or has glitches like other banking apps I’ve used in the past.
  • Great Job, one request. May 1, 2020

    By Lanc Local
The app works as expected and as it should. There's no menu at the top of the window, which is fine, because at the bottom you have Icons for links to the only 4 options available. My problem is, even though I wear contacts, that give me perfect vision, the menu icons, and especially the text under those icons is so faint with the light gray font color, that I can't read it. I've changed the screen brightness, nope... I've increased the phone text size, nope... The handicap setting on my iPhone didn't help either. Once you've made a selection, the icon darkens making it readable. So, I'm only half blind! Would you consider darkening that light font color, and then change color to show which page you're on? Thanks, it works fabulous otherwise.
  • Works Well — Functional and Easy May 31, 2019

    By C. M. Bollinger
I don’t see why people make complaints — I’ve used the bank for years (and frankly, this isn’t the place to be reviewing the bank itself; these reviews are supposed to be for the app) and it’s been nothing but good experiences all around. For those who are complaining that it’s not a good trading app, that’s your problem... it’s a banking app and isn’t touted solely as a trading app. As far as a bank app goes, it’s functional, easy to access statements and information regarding your account, and the features a normal banking customer would utilize are perfectly fine. I’ve never had an issue and I’ve been using the app for basically as long as it’s been around. I also use other banking apps that are much less functional and useful and frankly frustrating — such as Fidelity, which IS meant to allow trading, and falls short of what it is apparently intended to do — and various others whose features are faulty at times, request you to phone the institution for certain functions, etc. Thus far, Ally’s functionality and accessibility far outrank any other financial institution’s app that I have used to date.

I enjoy Ally Financial and the app. There are moments when updates are occuring or I need to restart my device to make it work better but overall I enjoy this company as a whole and their app. Convenience is very important to me and Ally never fails.
  • Update Required pop ups affect app usability Nov 23, 2019

    By ethansinjin
The Ally app is in the top 25% of financial related apps I’ve used. Over the years, it has gotten consistently better, particularly since they moved ATM finder back into the app (instead of requiring a separate download). I do have a few complaints, though. I work for a communications company that has an app in the App Store. Sometimes, due to non backwards-compatible API changes, we need to force users to update to the latest version of the app in the App Store. But, we generally do this sparingly, with great regard for the annoyance it causes users. And when possible, we support the past few versions of our app instead of only the latest release. Ally has released 5 updates in the past few weeks (good!) but forces only the absolute latest version on users (bad!) if you open a version that was released only a day ago, you can’t use the app until you go to the App Store and update. On top of that, it seems like Ally Bank is using the Staged 7-day releases feature of App Store Connect, which doesn’t auto-update the app for the majority of users until a week after the update goes live in the App Store. The end result is a massive pain as the daily use case/experience. It would be great if the “update required” feature could be used more sparingly (maybe support the last 2-3 versions instead of just the latest?) but if that’s not an option, consider turning off the Staged Rollout feature.

I truly enjoy banking with Ally Bank. I’ve been a customer for almost 10 years. The mobile app has come a long way. I’m definitely enjoying the new feature but there’s always room for improvement. Most banking apps include a budgeting feature. I think it’s time for Ally to implement a budgeting feature in their app. I’ve been using 3rd party apps to keep my budget in check, but it would be much more convenient to do this right inside the Ally app. The buckets feature is okay but could be improved. I like the idea of “cash envelope system” and the buckets feature is a sort of digital version of this. I do think we should be allowed to create as many buckets as we like. I also which we could create buckets in our checking accounts. You should also be able to allocated fixed amounts rather than just percentages. If these things are fixed, you’ll get that 5th star from me. Keep up the great work Ally bank!
  • Good but disappointed no use with VPN Oct 12, 2020

    By Donnie504
Overall I’m satisfied with Ally and the app. I still wish it was easier to see pending transactions and I randomly (at least to me) have transactions declined while at the store but I get a text now that I can tell them to accept the charge whereas in the past I would have to step out of line and call them. However, what I am most upset about is the fact that I can’t use the app with the VPN on, on my phone. I couldn’t login to the app for days and didn’t know why until I came to the app looking for an update and saw someone had commented on the VPN issue. When I contacted Ally about it I was told they value security (ironic) and such as don’t allow certain internet protocols and if I could still login online I would be fine. Well, apparently I can’t login online either unless I turn of my VPN for that too. This is highly inconvenient, especially when I don’t have this issue with my other banking apps.
  • Great Bank But New Features Hurt App UX Feb 8, 2020

    By daneel571
Excellent bank overall but the last few updates have hurt the user experience on the mobile app. The new analyze feature is nice but gets in the way most of the time when checking my balances and transactions. I used to be able to tap on an account then get my transaction information immediately. Now I tap on an account, then get to wait a second or two for the analyze element to load. And to add to the annoyance, what I wanted to see is pushed off the screen. Allow the user to disable the new feature to speed up navigation of the app or put the analyze feature in its own section. Don’t force the user to have to move through it every time. I realize that you want to advertise your services to your users but this is the digital equivalent of putting the milk in the back of the store and it is annoying.

It's simple and user friendly, the rates are competitive at the moment although they were (understandably) better before the pandemic. As far as checking and savings accounts, I'm more than satisfied. If you can handle your financial commitments and worries digitally or by phone then I highly recommend. I'm considering exploring the benefits of CD or stock investment with Ally Bank so I'll update about that in a few months.
  • Easy to use until card controls fail Sep 5, 2017

    By R297pl
I usually enjoy using the Ally app to do much of my banking. It is convenient and easy to use. However when I had locked my card using Card Controls and couldn't unlock it because the Card Controls app wouldn't load, I found it frustrating. No way to fix the problem even with a phone call. I never understood why an additional app was needed to lock and unlock my card. Why not update the Ally app to include that feature. I finally removed the Card Controls app and don't intend to load it again. Eventually I was able to use my card again.
  • Updating mandatory, but not working. Nov 21, 2018

    By nurseICU
Am directed to update the app, but it fails to update. Yes, tried turning things off/back on. Can’t find online customer service. Am hoping they will see this. In the meantime, I am unable to use the mobile app. I’ll delete this review after it’s fixed. I like Ally bank very much. Update: finally able to upgrade after upgrading to latest iOS. I wasn’t happy about it, and I like to wait on upgrading my system until I hear the “all clear” from friends. Ally has great customer service. My only complaint is length of time it takes deposits to clear.
  • Great Features, Needs 1 More Apr 21, 2020

    By Josh Kappel
I like the interface of the app, and the buckets feature is what ultimately swayed me to try out Ally after my other online savings account significantly reduced their rates. I do wish there was a “Pending Interest” number available in the account details - one that showed how much total interest is accruing over the month without having to wait for each monthly statement to post. There’s the Daily Interest Accrued that just shows how much was earned in a particular day, but I’d like to see it keep adding up in a given month. With that I’d give 5 stars. Thanks
  • Check deposit update is worse Jun 4, 2020

    By Malagique
For the most part I really enjoy this app. It is quick and has a clean UI. However, I hate the updated check deposit feature. Now it tries to automatically take the photo of the check and you must wait through a few failed attempts before being able to manually take the photo. I understand the concept, but in practice this is just annoying. Wasn’t a problem that needed a new solution.

I have to update this app almost every time I use it which is irritating. It's reliable for depositing checks though, especially considering how lousy the last app was from a different bank. Deposits are really the only thing I use it for.
  • Really long wait Feb 25, 2021

    By Sealvl

Started out pretty good. Along with card controls was very happy. Worked just fine. Now I have been trying for 2 days to update and access my account. Still pending. While I understand the need to fix bugs and keep the app secure, it shouldn't take this long to update. You should be able get account balance at any time.

It's just okay. Nothing broken, but definitely not user friendly. I moved to Ally because Simple banking closed. I find Ally's app full of extraneous links and text I don't need to see every time I go in to check my balance. It could be redesigned for a much cleaner, easier to use interface. Also, Simple used "protected goals" buckets as savings accounts so you could transfer money back and forth from checking to savings as many times as you want without fees.

Mobile checks deposit could be improved. When depositing checks, the app tries to determine how much the check is written for (it is usually wrong) and then provides feedback to the user. If it thinks the amount doesn't match, the presents the options to "cancel" (and start over) or (continue to) "submit" the deposit transaction. My recommendation is to add a third option to review the submission without starting over. It is annoying to have to recapture the checks.
  • Misleading. Apr 23, 2021

    By SCarp25
The app is generally fine (PNC could learn a thing or two from Ally's mobile deposit feature), with some misleading annoyances. The screenshots they use to advertise the app are misleading - the APY hasn't been 1.70% for a long time. We've been stuck at 0.50% for awhile even as the economy bounces back. I guess they're hoping we don't notice. Also, on the Snapshot page, there's no 'Account Activity Summary' under Total Balance as shown on the App Store ads. In the actual app, it's replaced by an annoying, delayed ad for an Ally Invest managed portfolio that loads slightly later than everything else, so multiple times now when I go to click on my Account Details I'm actually taken to the Invest page instead. I don't use Ally Invest, nor do I plan to, so being rerouted when I'm about my business is a pain.
  • Great for banking. Garbage for investing. Dec 17, 2020

    By Hdoggg007
Excellent banking app. Nice UI/UX. There’s a lot of unnecessary text in the middle of the main view that’s not closable. For instance I don’t care that my electric bill was a few bucks higher than last month. I already know that. Would be nice to clean that up. The investing part of the app is terrible. There’s no way to see simple things like overall “days change” in both % and $ (I.e. a sum of all positions). This is probably the most used function by investors. You’re stuck with the one view they created. Highly recommend you hire a new UI/UX team for this. Look at some the other apps out there like stocks trader and Ameritrade (now think or Sam) who have awesome UIs. If the investing app were separate I’d give it one star and give the banking app 5 stars.
  • What happened May 19, 2019

I love Ally, been with them for years and the app has been solid for a long time. However, Bill Pay was messed up two versions ago. I believe the recent redesign of the main site may of had something to do with these issues. Bills show up in the app and when you click on the payee, the balance of your account is no longer shown. You have to click on accounts and then the app will show your balance. Definitely a bug. Then after you set the due date and balance and click to schedule the payment, the eBill does not go away. Another bug. The app no longer links the scheduled payment to the eBill. Please fix these bugs.
  • Need to see trade history Dec 12, 2017

    By Sheena243
The Ally Invest portion of the app needs some improvements. I would like to be able to see a history of trades that have been made and the gain or loss on those through the app. The app also is unable to shrink or fit font in a good way if you have text enlarged across the phone. So it looks bad with parts of the figures disappearing or overlapping. Needs a more professional and smoother look. In short, the app is useful for a current snapshot of holdings. But if you get an alert that you just made a trade ... going to the app is highly frustrating as you realize you don’t have the ability to see what just happened.
  • Can’t see value of holdings Jun 3, 2021

    By ToeKnee2222
The reason I downloaded the app was to be able to see current value of stock holdings at a glance. The app doesn’t provide this as far as I can tell. You look at holdings and you just see the quantity of shares and daily percentage rise/fall of stock price. I could do the math mentally or click into each individual stock one by one, but that is far less convenient than being able to simply scroll current value of portfolio holdings. Disappointed. Otherwise app seems to function fine, though I haven’t used it much yet. Will mostly continue to use the website.

ATM locator is bad compared to "find locations" features in other apps. You can only view one ATM at a time on the map, and you can't initiate a search using map boundaries as the parameters. You must enter an address or zip code. If you enter a zip code it will only search for locations with an address in that zip code, as opposed to searching nearby areas as well
  • Won’t release my funds! Feb 4, 2021

    By OG12345
I’ve had an Ally interest checking account since 2015. On February1st I deposited two checks via e check deposit. The second check’s funds were released the next day. The first check (which was well below their limit for special handling and extra hold time for a check) was still pending three days later. I called customer service and the CS representative was very helpful. She found no reason so she contacted at least three supervisors who also couldn’t find a reason. They verified my story and it matched the check. The end result was there was someone up the chain who didn’t give a reason but over rode the decision of the other supervisors and placed a seven day hold on my check. This was a time sensitive transaction and it cost me money. Moral of the story. Supervisors don’t have the final say and if you have a check and need the cash, place it with another bank.
  • No DRIP control, no proper banking statement Apr 6, 2021

    By Mr Specktor
Called yo turn off DRIP on a stock I own, and for the past 2 months it still buys stocks with my dividends instead of paying me out... i want one stock off DRIP and the rest on them, they cannot do this... The beginning and end date of the monthly statements for banking start and end on dates related to when you set up your account... mine was set up on the 15th of the month so my statements cover from the 5th of the month to the 5th of the month... i already have an April 2021 statement. Every other financial institution worth anything shows me my money movement for a given month (first day to last day) with none of this arbitrary start and end date shenanigans. I’m out! Don’t make up your own months, we have the Gregorian calendar for a reason, use it!
  • Not Good for Penny Stock Traders Jun 20, 2018

    By Worth 0.99
Back before Tradeking merged with Ally (or whatever happened), Tradeking’s buy/limit option allowed you to trade at less than 0.01 ... which is crucial if you work with ANY penny stocks. For example you could create a purchase limit order at 0.015 or even 0.012 ... it offered way more functionality and precision working with penny stocks. Admittedly ever since Tradeking merged with Ally, since Ally Mobile stopped allowing trade limits (buy or sell) at 0.011 to 0.019 (limit orders that don’t have the same precision as before), I’ve admittedly lost money and decent opportunities. I like Ally Mobile, it works very smooth. I’m just very disappointed with the lack of precision that Tradeking offered. Eventually I’m going to have to transfer my portfolio to a different stock broker unless Ally Mobile updates their functionality to allow limit trades between 0.01 and 0.02 (between pennies). Examples: 0.013, 0.015, 0.024, 0.027, 0.029, 0.031, 0.038, etc, etc, Hopefully they fix this limitation soon (unless there was some new stock trading regulations I didn’t know about, that no longer allow limit trades between pennies). Otherwise it works great though.
  • Works fine but needs to support more Jan 24, 2020

    By SgtBlue
The app works fine for what it does, and is honestly one of the better bank apps, but Ally still frustratingly forces you to go to their full desktop site to do many operations. For example, their mobile bill pay interface is very limited and can't create or change repeated payments. You also can't do it through the mobile website (and the "View Full Desktop Site" options don't work); you actually have to use a desktop or laptop computer. It's 2020; I do almost all of my banking from my phone now. Get with the times Ally. This is the only reason I keep my checking account and do most of my bill pay through a separate bank; USAA's mobile app is fantastic.

After having my account for over a year, Ally locked my funds so my debit card was declined while I was buying tacos. I was told to call them. Then after over 2 hours on hold, an extremely rude customer service rep told me they were going to “sever their banking relationship with me” so I asked, what will happen to my money? Can I do anything about this? Then I was told all my funds would be sent back to the original source. So what happens to my paycheck? No idea, the customer rep seemed aggressive and didn’t care. They were done with me. I still don’t know where my money is. DON’T RISK BANKING WITH ALLY unless you want to be locked out of your own account. Happens all the time. Read the comments.
  • FIX NEEDED! iPad APP when Viewing an Ally Investment Accounts May 24, 2020

    By AGJR954
Love Ally and the ease to open accounts and use of their platform. I do have one major gripe and that is that the Ally Bank App when choosing your investment account doesn’t work well at all on an iPad. When you chose your investment account on an iPad it temporarily shows you your investments but then it immediately reformats itself with HUGE spacing in between your investments and it difficult to view from a Birdseye view. Please issue a fix so when viewing accounts on an iPad in portrait or landscape mode that it modifies itself accordingly. Thanks Ally I look forward to this fix!!! I am more than happy to change my rating once this is fixed! :-)

Ok. Case and point. Credit cards ask 18%+, and yet for 6 times in 2 months I’m getting an email telling me the interest rate on my savings account with them has been reduced. When I started with them, it was 1.50% APY and now after reducing it gradually, and EMAILING me with each gradual reduction, they just sent an email telling me there’s been a change in my APY from .80% down to .60%. This is RAINDROPS compared to the interest credit card companies charge. And this is for me placing my money in an account at their bank, vs. the other banks with even lousier rates! I mean, is the banking system REALLY hurting so bad that they can only afford to now pay their customer .60%???? Inquiring minds would like to know!

Why do I have to opt in to receive texts to begin with since I have already opted in before? I've actually had prior issues with them before. Edit: I went ahead and just deleted the app. I'm not dealing with this.

I opened an account on the basis of their many positive reviews, and have really regretted the decision. I wired a significant amount to them immediately on opening. Then I had the audacity to deposit checks that were also significant amounts - a tax refund from the State of Illinois and a dividend from a well known REIT. I never withdrew any funds. Somehow, my account got flagged by their loss prevent algorithm which shut down all access to my account. I called them and was told it could take up to 10 days to clear. While I would understand if they would put a hold on the checks until they cleared, I don’t understand the complete lock on my account. The wired funds have been removed from my other account so are completely unavailable. This is horrible policy on Ally’s part and horrible customer service. As far as I can tell, Ally’s policy is that your funds are their funds until they say otherwise. I am only grateful that I don’t need those funds soon. If you want any actual control over your money, I highly recommend you skip this impersonal, online bank that clearly puts all risks on its customers.
