  • A "must have" app for anyone who dines out with food allergies Nov 7, 2018

    By Tico3169
If you dine out with allergies, AllergyEats has to be in your pocket or purse. This is the only comprehensive guide of restaurants rated on the basis of allergy-friendliness. Ratings are based on the reviews from others in the food allergy community, making this like the Yelp or TripAdvisor for food allergies. See the ratings, read the reviews, check menus, save favorites, reserve through OpenTable, touch for directions or a call - the features are spectacular, especially the ones added in this version. The Disney-specific guide is useful and the new NYC guide is soooo useful! Love the blog stories and critical info, and the annual Top 10 list is always great to see. Overall, so valuable. A "must-have!"

The info on this app has made traveling with our food allergic son so much easier. We were directed to great restaurants that were happy to work with our needs and away from those that have been poor choices for allergy families. Apps like this are only as good when more members join and participate. The food allergy community needs to support each other with this sort of information.

I have several food allergies and having a place to go to check out restaurants before I might waste my time there is awesome. This app ensures me that when I go to a restaurant that, that the restaurant im heading to will ensure my safety and care about there customers. I greatly appreciate the time and effort of everyone who created this app and all the people who review on here for others.

This is a good app for FA families. When I tried it the first time though most of the reviews were around nuts. Not as helpful when you have multiple allergies. It looks like their efforts to encourage those of us with other allergies is starting to work. I would like more space to write my reviews. FA parents and FA people need details! Hard to provide them when the box lets you keep writing but you can’t scroll down to see what you wrote!!! Fix that and I’d say 4.5 stars. Just need more people to contribute quality reviews to get a 5!

The app is great!! I only wish more info was available. When we are planning to go somewhere and there is no info because no one has rated the restaurant it would be great to have info based on other related stores or just general info about the restaurant policies and procedures relating to allergies easily available.

What a great app for those with food allergies and their families. I look at it often. It helped us find a safe ice cream Restaraunt where we could safely take our peanut & tree nut allergic daughter with the rest of our kids for a treat. Those without food allergies cannot understand just how important that is for a family to safely eat out when they have to monitor all foods so closely.

I recently took my son (who has multiple food allergies) on a road trip and I could not have done it without the Allergy Eats app. I just typed in the area we would be in and was able to find several suitable restaurants which I researched further by printing out their allergen menus to take with me. Traveling with food allergies is definitely a challenge, but Allergy Eats made it much easier!

Updating my review and upgrading to 3 star. The search function on the app is reasonable and can pick up on my location. Allergy Eats has given us the gift of safe meals many times. On the other hand, there is functionality that I feel is missing. Key missing functions for me are the ability to search a larger radius and the ability to focus on number of reviews. We will happily drive 40 miles out of our way on vacation to eat at a restaurant that has many positive reviews on Allergy Eats. One trip to the ER after contaminated food more than covers the cost of a few gallons of gas. I think it would be good to show chain ratings as well as specific store ratings. You can kind of get there is a chain is on the top ten list, but it would be good to see ratings aside from that as well.

This app is great, you can type in your or your child's allergies and the city and state. The options come up and what is great is it is not just a star rating system it also has the reviewers allergies and comments directly from them. And you know how the establishment handled those specific allergies! So great!

This app makes my life so much easier! Helps me find safe places to allow me to introduce the country to my daughter with celiac and multiple food allergies. Not sure the number of hours I would spend and frustration and tears I would shed if this app didn’t exist! Always asking fellow celiacs and food allergy advocates to post their reviews on it! Thanks allergy eats!

The last time I used this app was in 2017. I recently read an email telling me to go back on so I did and I remember now why I stopped using it. It just doesn’t inspire me at all and there are no pictures of restaurants. Also, I mainly logged in to write a review for a restaurant that I’ve been visiting for the last few days. It is a new family operation that just opened their doors this year. I can understand how it’s not on here but there’s no way for me to add it. I think if google maps was integrated into the app somehow like I’ve seen some vegan apps do, it would make it a lot easier to search restaurants that are current. I am kind of disappointed I wasn’t able to leave a review for my favorite healthy sandwich shop and keep Allergy Eats going though. I really do hope the app improves one day because I know it can be the best. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.

It's a good idea, but was entirely useless for me. I entered my location and allergen (just dairy) and it didn't seem to filter the results at all. Most of the results say nothing about the dairy allergen and some that I knew for sure had no dairy free options. If it worked it would also be nice to have menu links in the app.

This app lasted about 5 minutes on my phone. I live in a large metro area, and there are only 5 restaurants listed in a 5 mile search. When doing a location-based (not zip code) search, restaurants show up all out of order, not by closest ones. I will just continue looking up each restaurant's allergy menus online. One way this could actually be effective is for only non-chain restaurants to be listed that don't have their information online.
  • Only helpful for single allergies Mar 28, 2021

    By LilLunaLady
I can see how the rating system could be very helpful if you only had one allergy. However, with multiple allergies, it’s completely useless. The app shows any restaurant with reviews for any of your allergies, so you’re back to square one scouring the menu and calling ahead to figure out if you can eat anything. Even restaurants that show reviews for all your filtered allergies (in my case gluten, soy, and dairy), those are individual ratings. So everything that’s gluten free has one of the other two and so on and it’s still back to square one. The only way I can see this improving to something actually helpful would be if the search function was a filter for menu items that don’t include your allergies. But as a rating/review app, if you have more than one allergy it’s as useless as yelp or googling yourself.
  • May 26, 2020

Is not user-friendly. No way to discern what menu items are allergy-friendly. Just gives a copy of the menu provided by restaurant. Very unhelpful app. As for going by ratings: There are none for the CHAIN near me that I was looking into. And NO, there is NO restaurant that is going to bend to allergy whims during Covid19. Stay home and cook. That's what I'm doing. That is our ONLY choice. This app does NOT make it easier AT ALL.

Maybe it's just my area, but the app pulled up mostly restaurants I know for a fact are not safe for me. I have celiac diaease, so I marked both the wheat and gluten options, then ran my search. It listed places such as Subway, Heidi's, KFC, McDonald's, etc. I was so hopeful, but uninstalled immediately.
  • Apr 5, 2020

    By C C
Doesn't list all food allergies just the most common ones. Also it doesn't list ingredients in any of the menu items, it was just a copy of the resturants menu. Hard to look for allergies that aren't most common.
  • Jul 15, 2019

This app shows you restaurants/Cafes that include your allergy. I have Celiac so I put I had a Gluten and wheat allergy, then it pulled up a doughnut shop that I know for sure doesn't have food that doesn't contain gluten. The only thing they have that doesn't have gluten is the drinks, which shouldn't allow it to show up if that's all you can order. This doesn't help me in any way shape or form and I'm disappointed because if this worked more efficiently, other people with Celiac could use it.

I was looking for an app to recommend restaurants and items I could use with my allergies. Right now, this app does the same thing Yelp or Google does. The allergy review feature is nice, but it’d be great if instead of directing me to a restaurant’s menu (where I have to plug my allergens in all over again), the app already filtered the menu options and gave suggestions based on the information I provide.

I always have this app on hand when traveling to choose a place that others have eaten at safely. There aren't quite enough restaurant ratings yet (but there are a lot: there are more here than anywhere else), so please download this app and rate the restaurants your eat at: for my sake, if not for your own! :)
  • Terrific app - a must have if you have food allergies Jan 9, 2018

    By TexaSaint
I use this all the time while traveling. It’s great to read other users reviews to get a sense of possible food allergy concerns at eateries I’m not familiar with. You of course would want to double check every time you go eat someplace, but it’s an excellent first line of defense to mitigate a possible allergic reaction!

  • Great concept- needs more input from users Jun 27, 2019

    By AQ4012345
Love the idea of this app but needs more ratings from users. Many locations only have a couple ratings so not much to go on. The written responses are key to getting a good sense of the review as well. The top chains list is super helpful. Needing to select a nickname to submit this review was an annoying process since every name is taken. Why can people just leave their first name??
  • Getting better Jun 23, 2019

App has improved. I like the addition of the survey questions so I don’t have to write a long story if I don’t have time. A few more optional questions would help. For example... is the bread ok? (common issue). Which dessert is ok? Did they have an allergy menu? I realize for legalities questions cannot likely be worded this way but a little more structured insight would help.
  • This will be great when more people leave reviews Feb 10, 2019

This app could be incredible if there were more inputs from users. I’m sure there are tons of places that are allergy friendly, but if people don’t leave reviews it doesn’t help others find these hidden gems. We’ll keep using this as much as we can to help improve apps like this one!

I've been a member on Allergy Eats for a while and just recently got the app. It is great for when traveling and trying to find a restaurant that can meet your needs. The only change I would suggest is making it possible to click on and view the overall or chain rating for restaurants. I have found that often the restaurant at a specific location doesn't have a review, but it shows a chain rating. It would be helpful to be able to read those reviews as well!

I'm the only one with severe allergies in my friend group, and I'm new to the city I live in so I don't know what all it has to offer food-wise. I only wish that you could search for types of food rather than just restaurant names (like "Chinese Restaurant" with the peanut-safe filter on as opposed to just checking if the nearest Panda Express peanut-safe)

I think this app sounds great. And since I live in a city, there are many places to eat depending on where we are - I would love to be able to search quickly and make a choice - however I find it terribly irritating that I have to re-enter the allergens that we have every time I start a new search. What is the point of the profile and password if I can't save my allergies?? Fix this and I'll give your app another try.

I was really excited to download this app before my upcoming vacation. The only issue is that the app is SO SLOW that it takes so long to even open and read the reviews.

Could use lots of improvement when it comes to filtering by gluten. The app is listing restaurants that do not accommodate those who have to eat gluten free in addition to those that accommodate. Make sure to double check and do outside research of solely relying on this app to find gluten free options. Better apps exist for those looking to dine out who have to eat gluten free. Would prefer to have customer ratings in the app to see what others have thought about their experiences.

All this app does is list restaurants in the area (some of which are no longer in business). I could do this by simply searching restaurants. It lists ratings for some chains but doesn’t say why they got the ratings. As far as ratings by customers (there were none for any restaurants I looked at) every person has different allergies so unless someone with your exact allergy comments it is not helpful.

Great if you specifically wanna know about the latest seafood or shellfish allergies other than that completely useless! Also had many restaurants listed in my hometown that have long since been shut down! Update your app and maybe list other allergies. What’s the point of asking what I’m allergic to if all the restaurant reviews only show shellfish and seafood as the concern?

I was disappointed that the app only included an icon by restaurants if they contained nuts, and no links to menus or ingredients or listings of specific foods containing the nuts. You would think most allergy friendly restaurants included nutritional information with allergen listings on their websites. I didn’t get any specificity on the allergen info or where to find it online.

I just downloaded it today and for fun put in my town as my son has a gluten allergy. This app recommended restaurants that have no gluten free options and also listed restaurants that have been closed over 5 years.
