  • Update: Numbers are right, but cannot find my feet in it Sep 1, 2017

Okay, in the last year StockWatch lost its charts after the Yahoo takeover and the developer is missing in action. So, despite the lack of a chart in the main portfolio view, the charts at least work. So, now this is the better of the two apps, with the caveat of this being a pay to play for the real version and it being a bit of a voyage to get to each chart. Original Review: It just seems to be a confused design. I can't see how to get good use from it. I don't find any advantage in it versus something like my most preferred StockWatch.

This app has basic functionality and I am impressed that the developer seems to actually read review comments so I am recommending the following improvements: - The circle/pie charts need to show all holdings in the portfolio and not just show 100% stock. As they are now, they are not helpful to show distribution of holdings. - The Summary roll-up needs to show the percent holding of each of the portfolios. This is critical for tracking distribution and checking to see when re-balancing might be needed. A circle/pie chart at the summary level would be a nice feature to illustrate the percentage of each portfolio. - If the stock being tracked is a mutual fund, the dollar amount listed under "Today's profit" should not reflect yesterday's profit. The amount should be zero or a comment saying "waiting for market close." - News alerts are hard to decipher. This may be a formatting issue. Also many of the alerts seem to not be applicable to any of the holding in my portfolios. - Need charts for mutual funds - Kind of cool that stock charts show continuous (after hour) trades but please format the 5 day chart to make it easier to see the start and end of trading for each day. - Would be nice if the summary page also listed the major stock indices so one can gauge the market and/or make comparisons between portfolios and market performance.

I have found the Active Portfolio to be a great tool for managing my investments. I am retired and manage my own portfolio. The TA and FA scores have been very predictive based on my experience. I had contacted the developers about adding a ranking of the TA and FA scores by high to low or low to high scores. It was just added and a great improvement. I was very impressed that input was considered and acted upon if it makes sense. So thanks for the great app. I have started investing using a robo broker with the concept of investment pies (sectors). I have already started setting up my portfolios by each of the pies. It gives me significant quick analysis of every sector as measured by the individual stocks in the sector which I fully manage. A great tool for the cost annually (top level for me) and I have recommended to all my friends.

Absolutely the BEST portfolio tracking app I came across, I can track the regular stuff as well as OPTIONS AND BITCURRENCY. I can finally track all my different portfolios from different brokers and see a summary of it all! Download this app, you'll be happy! The only suggestions I have are enable the ability to upgrade within the app, add alerts both for percentage gain/loss and/or price, ability to delete/edit portfolio names, and make a summary widget. This deserves 5 stars none-the-less!

  • Good alternative to Bloomberg Dec 31, 2020

Like other reviewers I switched to this app after Bloomberg released a Dec 2016 'upgrade' and ruined their excellent mobile app, particularly the Watchlist function which was a primary reason for using the app. This is an excellent substitute and keeps track of my portfolios very well. A suggestion is to add a one-screen summary of each portfolio with one line for each holding showing daily changes, etc -- exactly as Bloomberg had. This would allow a quick overview of holdings. If you need more detail then you could drill down to an individual stock. It will make a good app even better. This is not a complaint only a suggestion -- there are so many great features in this app. Congratulations to the team that created it.

Unfortunately this portfolio tracker does not allow you to manually enter stock or bond positions; therefore, there is no way to accurately track your actual portfolio if it contains “unusual” investments such as fixed income (bonds) or foreign exchange stocks. Basically you can manually add a position, but the app forces you to define the position by symbol (CUSIP not available). You can enter any symbol you want and assign a cost basis manually. But if the app doesn’t recognize your symbol there is no way to manually enter the current price, so there is no way to track total portfolio. Interestingly if you import from broker, the app will import symbols it doesn’t recognize (in my case, a bond) but it doesn’t import current market price. Maybe the premium features allow his but it’s not stated in the description.

    1. The portfolio tracker is transaction based only. So if you buy 100 shares of XXX and then another 100 shares, you don’t see you own 200 shares. You only see 2 transactions of 100. So your portfolio will get very messy, very quickly. 2. You can’t rename portfolios. 3. No graphs to show profit/loss over time. 4. See (1). I mean, how can you not combine positions? That also mean that you can’t see average price unless you modify the original transaction. 5. This will cost up to $999/year for this less then basic app. 6. You will be upset you wasted time and money on this. Response to developer: I did try it. I entered some of my accounts and gave it a shot. That’s how I found out about is serious shortcomings. And the $999 is from the iTunes subscription page. So there is a $999 paywall to some features.

  • It is the best I have found Feb 16, 2021

I have 9 portfolios to track and this app does it just fine. I had been a fan of Yahoo Finance but when they made a move to start charging the system somehow fouled up I could not get it working again. This one works just fine, it is easy to modify a position, easy to add a new portfolio, and updates quickly. Perhaps the best aspect is the support. Recently I changed iPads and ran into problems. I got several emails that assisted me right through that. Yahoo Finance has none of that in my experience. So for functionality and real support when you need it, this is the one. I have recommended this to quite a few friends and they like it too.

  • Where did my holdings go? Apr 4, 2019

    By Mass Gardener
I opened the app earlier to check how the market did today and see what my portfolio was doing, and all was well. Now a few hours later when I checked again, most of my holdings had disappeared from my portfolio. I'll wait a while to see if things correct themselves, but if not it may be time to go look for a new app. Update -- whatever the issue was seems to have been resolved. All of my holdings are now showing up again!

I have used the app for several months and I have found it to be useful. I would like to see a date purchased along with the total gain which is displayed. Now I must go thru several steps to acquire this info. In a fast moving market it’s imperative in accessing your next portfolio move to have these two bits of info readily at hand.

So far I am liking this app and I’m considering buying it. It will be the first app I ever bought. Do you have the ability to add fractional shares, slices, into the portfolio in your premium? A lot of people including myself are starting to use fractional shares or share slices depending on what platform is being used. Is this something you are doing or have?

  • Occasionally Hides Holdings; Great Simplistic Layout Nov 6, 2017

    By wesowen
The app was extremely useful until today when I noticed the total value was off. The values of one holding were not shown in the app, and even after completely restarting the app, the values were not present. This happened randomly to numerous holdings throughout the day, and I will be giving the app a rest until this is repaired. Also, following the review of someone else, I agree that mutual funds should only show daily gain after they post their nav end of day. Having the individual stockholdings within a pie chart would look much more aesthetic than the current as well. Also wondering if there is any feature which compensates for interest on cash positions and dividends on various other investments as well as an implementation for reinvestment.

If you have more than two portfolios to track (and I do) you need to upgrade to premium to add them. If all you want is current net worth across portfolios you get that. I can’t seem to get any kind of chart over time of net worth or for individual portfolios. It gets annoying to click on menu items and get “You need to upgrade to get this feature”. I’d rather have the unavailable items marked in a way that you can tell they require an upgrade BEFORE you click on them. I’ve pretty much given up on clicking on unfamiliar menu items.

I started this portfolio watch several years ago. First the did not allow me to have further positions. Now even after I deleted another position I can’t add a replacement. The price they are charging now is just not worth it. Very disappointed with their approach. It is just a fair web site at best.

It does everything I want, is simple, and easy to learn. Edited: they spring the paywall on you without notice and there are no clear instructions on what you can and can't do until time runs out. $2.99 a month is expensive to do what my brokers tool does for free.

This app works ok most of the time but every few days my etfs show no value. This reduces my total value of investments significantly. Tried reload a few times but no success. If this can’t be corrected I will look for a more consistent and accurate app. Thank you.

  • Same old problems Apr 22, 2020

I have used this app for about 1.5 years or so. I get daily updates for my mutual funds and they are almost always wrong. The stock market will take a dive but the daily updates indicate my mutual funds are up. After about 5 pm, the final numbers are correct, but the updates are still wrong. Today, the update reported about $500 profit in fact it was a $500 loss. Just a little annoying. An update at least 6 months later. Same problem. Today I get a finance update showing I gained 1.55 percent today. I go into my portfolio and it shows down 2.85 percent. The uptick should be correct. This program is for entertainment purposes only and cannot be relied upon.

This app was great until last week when I tried to add another account. At that time, I was asked to pay a monthly charge to continue. I am looking for a simple way to keep up with all my investments in one place, and this was it. Now I’m supposed to pay monthly for the privilege? I would be happy to pay more up front. I’m looking for more options on the App Store.

Just got this app and was excited to see that I could download my fidelity portfolio. After trying for two days, all I get is “Network error. Please try again later.“ Tried to contact vendor as to whether this was a known issue. Did not get a response. This app seems to be loaded down with bells and whistles, but comes up short on the basics.

  • Does not work Jan 16, 2019

For approximately one month now some mutual fund closing have been inaccurate or are randomly entirely absent resulting in an investment with a zero total value. I have emailed technical support several times about these issues and lately have not gotten any response as to when this issue will be fixed. Useless, as it is currently working. Do not waste your money, you will not get accurate results. Especially disappointing since it used to work properly. Company does not seem to care anymore! If you are serious about keeping track of your investments, this program is currently incapable of accomplishing that goal.

When I open this app four hours after market closing, I get completely inaccurate readings. My balance is off by five or six hundred dollars, not all of the stocks have a day change amount just a zero. I can go back a few minutes later and get a completely different result. I never know if profit or loss amounts are accurate because they change constantly hours after the market has closed. I have this app on several different devices and each one has a different result. This app used to work but not now. Very disappointed.
