  • Excellent, but still some issues Aug 31, 2017

    By ShadowSpawnOFCS
I've really been enjoying the single-player against the AI and have spent more than enough hours playing to be happy with the purchase (273 games so far). My biggest complaint is that it keeps me up late playing. One oddity is that playing a card you pay for with cards or activated abilities you can undo; if it's free (e.g. Military planet) you can't undo. It crashes infrequently, and usually restarts with no problem when it does (though you may get different cards), but twice now it's actually corrupted my profile such that any attempt to start or resume a game crashes the app; all I can do in those profiles is view stats. It is easy enough to make a new profile, but frustrating if you like to looking at your stats. Even with those issues it's well worth it. I have the base game and 2/3 expansions.

Great game, fairly good app that generally provides a good experience. However, the AI can sometimes stall and cause the game to hang. I have also had games become uncompletable due to crashes which recur when attempting resume.

  • 4.5: Great game with one bug Jun 25, 2020

    By LTG879
If you like engine building card games this is fantastic. And the app runs smoothly. But in at least one game my final score didn’t include certain victory points granted by special cards. It’s fun to play even with thus flaw but accurately counting victory points seems essential to the game. Update: I was wrong. The scoring was correct but not transparent. It turns out some card values are variably scored behind the scenes. But this isn’t explained to the user which is confusing. I thought I had a card worth x+y but in fact it was just x. In general the brief rules explanations are enough to get going but not enough to understand gameplaying mistakes.

Bug report: the game forces you to sell a single card through "pilgrimage world" (which would give 1-1=0 points) and subsequently the app crashes. It would be better if selling cards would only be possible when having more than 1 card to sell, OR giving the player the option to pass. Either way, the crash needs to be fixed😊

  • Great game, mediocre interface Sep 24, 2018

    By Spiffy Robinson
I love the board game version of RftG, so I was very excited to try the app. However, the interface is not designed well and it makes the game difficult to enjoy. For one thing, the app doesn't fill the screen on the iPhone X. Another problem is that the interface elements are very small and hard to read. I'd have preferred a modal interface that shows only the information that's pertinent during each phase, so the IL interface elements are larger and easier to read. Lastly, it isn't clear what steps are happening as the round progresses, so I often have to bring up the log to understand what happened. This is worse because the log is difficult to reach from the game interface. I hope they address these problems in future updates

Edit: removing a star, you pushed an ad for your new game but still wont update/fix this one. This is a great game, it could really use a UI refresh. I am no developer but somewhere along the line of smartphone evolution the resolution changed and half of the text descriptions on all the zoomed in cards on my OnePlus 6T are cutoff. Game occasionally crashes but its easy to hop back in and you don't "lose" anything so its not a big deal to me

The buttons in the game respond to clicks that are not meant for the buttons. Eg. On my galaxy tab so I must click slightly up and to the left of the button I want. Even so, at some point this stopped working. Along with the fact that the last update was in 2018, I'm asking for a refund.

  • No multiplayer on linked iTunes accounts! Aug 1, 2017

    By asp520
The app looks beautiful, but so far my husband and I can't use multiplayer together! I bought it specifically for the "network multiplayer" (we love that Carcassonne lets us play together without internet, and I hoped this would be the same). However, every time we download RftG and try to "friend" each other, within a few minutes it recognizes us as the same player. Our "friend" codes match up, and he disappears from my "friend" list. We have separate Apple IDs and Gamecenter IDs, and we've never had this issue before! I emailed Temple Gates Games and will update my review when I hear back. It seems like so far they have been very responsive to user feedback, so I hope to see it fixed in an update soon. I think the app is probably overall very strong, but I wanted to warn others who are buying primarily to play with family members!

Great game, was great app now long time since update and the resolution is wrong game outside phone borders. I can no longer start an online game but can still join online games. Not really sure why, maybe the start button is outside of what I can see on my OnePlus 6T. Please do something developers, I've paid for the game! Edit: I'm talking about the lack of updates! Last one from autumn 2018

  • Great game that actually has decent AI Feb 2, 2018

    By Reidemeister
(Edited from original review) I love this game, and the app is very well done. It’s one of the few board game apps I’ve come across that actually has competent AI players (at least at high difficulty). I was having crash issues for a while after installing the Brink of War expansion, but after a phone restart and iOS update, they’ve disappeared, so the problem was likely on my phone’s end. To the developer’s credit, they did reach out to see if they could help fix the issue, but since it went away on its own there wasn’t anything that needed to be done.

  • good but notification issues Jun 17, 2018

    By Baggagecheckwhatnot
This game is fantastic in every way but one - I can't get turn notifications to work! I have background app refresh enabled and notifications completely enabled for it, but I have yet to receive a single notification during online games when it is my turn, meaning I have to just keep checking back for info. If those turn notifications worked, this would be a 5-star review easy, as the game is fantastic and implemented very well! Edit: changed to 5 stars with latest notification fix!

Most of the negative points I see written in the reviews I can't agree with. Multiplayer is the only way I play. Notifications work... Too well even. I get notifications on another device when I have it open even though I have it open in one. The interface, in my opinion, is good given the space limitations of screen size. There is a score breakdown but you have to decode the symbols. One request: add an optional undo. For multiplayer it could be a selectable option, for friendly multiplayer.

Hopefully this is Beta feedback. Hitting the main menu button while in a game exited the app. The app icon is the old style of app icon. Search for adaptive icons for more info. When you have a wild die, the game frequently does not register that it is placed, enabling the okay button. You have to place will dice before pressing auto or it does not work. Placing all remaining wild dice after pressing auto does not enable the okay button.

I LOVE THIS GAME! Needs refresh and update please. buggy in annoying ways and feels like it could use a slight refresh. Will get roll if at the very least we could get a stability update for this game! Thanks for making it so fun. Will update review to five stars on app update. Please?

  • Game doesn't always show when it's your turn Jul 16, 2017

    By gordoncww
I love the game, but it's frustrating that waiting games don't always show "your turn" when your opponents are waiting for you. I first noticed this by accident clicking on a "waiting" game. Now I have to check them all every day. Every day I find at least one that's on my turn. I wonder if this is why so many 3+ games never finish?

  • Multi-player lags Jan 26, 2019

    By atb0786
Pros: good implementation, difficult AIs. Cons: multi-player tied to single device, random numbers seem off. It’s a good port of the board game, and is pretty playable on an iPad, although it’s painful to read on iPhones. The tutorial is nice, and the AI, even at medium is a good challenge. The issues really come up for me in multi player. Although you can link devices, you can only play turns on the device you started the game on. In addition, with more that two players, there’s some real problems with game state. I don’t think I’ve successfully completed a three player game online. Card distribution seems off. With all of the expansions, the deck should be huge, but you see the same big point cards almost every game, and it makes it hard to win if you opponents draw them.

It's a pretty decent port of the cardgame. Some of the mechanics dont quite translate directly as the boardgame version doesnt run duplicate cards. I also find it a bit annoying to track the state of other players board. If you enjoy Race for the Galaxy then this isnt a bad substitute for playing the IRL version.

  • Game crash puts app in an unrecoverable state (update) Feb 8, 2018

    By dfmoyer
I loved this game when I could play it. However, just a couple weeks in I ended up with a hand of cards that could not be resolved by the app. The game hung and then crashed. Every attempt to start a new game since causes the app to crash. There is no way to recover so the game is now unplayable. Update: the last update seems to have corrected the issue. If it does not recur over time, I’ll add another star to the review to reflect my opinion on the game without the technical issues.

  • Great game but major bug Mar 14, 2020

    By Labrat01
I tried to find a place where you could send feedback to the developers but to no avail. So, guess I have to post it as a review. Colony Ship is broken. This card allows you to discard it as payment to place a world. So, after getting the Colony Ship out, you’ll be prompted to discard it as payment for any world you play after that. However, if you just click “ok” instead of actually discarding the Colony Ship, the game will not prompt you to pay for the world otherwise (discarding cards from your hand). In this way, you can play worlds for free as long as you have Colony Ship out and choose to not discard it as payment for a world. So currently, Colony Ship is the most powerful card. Play it and then play worlds for free after that. Of course, this is not really how the game is played but hey....until they fix it, ha!

  • Server Issues Aug 8, 2018

    By Zachary Apps
The game is very smooth and well done. A very nice app that implements the game well. My problem with it is I keep getting a “server unavailable” message when I’m trying to play online with friends. Once that is fixed, this is easily a five star app. The developer’s response unfortunately doesn’t apply. Perhaps it’s not an issue with their servers but some sort of conflict with T-Mobile users. However, I don’t have the server issue with any other game apps so I’m thinking there must be some other problem.

  • Not friendly to colorblind people Feb 6, 2018

    By Josh_in_DC
Played the physical version recently and enjoyed the rules and the game play, but they only use color to distinguish planet types and a couple of the colors they used are too similar for me to tell apart. I was hoping the electronic version of the game would have some sort of colorblind friendly mode, but it doesn’t. It makes it very frustrating to try to build synergies between cards if I can’t tell if card bonuses apply in a given situation.

  • Great game but notifications nonexistent May 24, 2020

    By chesslibra
I have learned to really like this game. Only played live once but have delved more into the app. Biggest drawback is you have to go into the app to know if it's your turn. Also, very annoying that time outs and forfeits automatically end the game. Prefer my apps where an AI takes over like Lords of Waterdeep. Lowered my review. Without notifications too easy to time out. And finally I play a lot of games against AIs. After playing for quite some tome it is very buggy and when it fails the app crashes twice before resetting. Really unacceptable that this has never been addressed
